3D on Samsung LED TV

I got a Samsung 46D6600 LED tv as a gift, so I have not tested it in store to know what it looks like, but so far I'm very happy with the set. I do not have a 3D movie to test 3D on this screen, but I'm able to play back .mkv files and convert 2D images to 3D. Problem I have is that the images don't seem to pop out of the screen but instead they have a more added depth 3D look. Is the 3D working correctly and how will I get images to pop out? :confused:
 
"Converted" images will never look really 3D.

would you guys know there are calibration settings for this set that I can follow? I can't really find any online except for a D6500 that was reviewed by Cnet. I need ones for the D6600.

Grats on the gift (wouldn't mind if someone did that to me :D).
Bud I haven't found the D6600 settings, but try on AVForums.... there's lots of discussion regarding optimal settings....

As for popping out effect, also try download the Monster vs Aliens trailer. Where the dude hits the ball towards the screen gives a decent idea.

EDIT: I have D7000 btw...
EDIT2: If you have a decent pc, hook it up to the tv and download the trial of Tridef.... My tears almost froze with the snowfall in Skyrim.... Supports 450+ international games!

Thanks once again for the help guys. I downloaded the 3D test video from Sony last night and it is amazing. All images was popping out and the scene where the shark comes towards the screen was incredible. I'm very happy with the 3D from that clip. I will try the others that Phree Me has suggested later today if I have time. This is really an amazing tv, I've seen the D7000 at the stores a while ago and that tv is also awesome, but for those that are a bit more constraint on budget have a look at the D6600.

Glad you like the 3D. It is a lot of money to pay for something that hasn't got that much content. But I guess if you can get it as a gift, its great!

nVidia has 3D surround ;) I think I might actually shed a tear if I had to see that with 3 46" Sammy's.....

As for the content, it depends on what your main use will be. If it's just movies, yes, the content is a little limited. I double my tv up as my PC monitor, so I use it for some gaming as well. Trust me when I say you'll never want to play normally again after you've seen these games (Skyrim, Borderlands, STO, Mafia 2, CnC's, Warhammer: DoW 2 I've tested so far) in 3D. The only prob is you have to pay for the software ($50 seems to be the standard) to play in 3D. I can go into the details for anyone who wants to know....

I do play on my 3DTV.... The games I've tried are in my previous post.
I'm not sure whether that last part is an insinuation or question, but I'll treat it as the latter. It is the software that allows you to play in 3D. Without it, you only have access to the 2D-3D conversion (not anything to write home about). It's not so much that the game is converted either. The software just tells your gfx card how/where to render the 3D objects in the space of your screen. As such, I've noticed MUCH better 'pop-out' effects on the more recent game titles...

Yeah its pretty good, but actually quite low-quality at 720p SBS, meaning the image to each eye is only 640x720p.

You want to get really blow away, get a 3D Bluray player. Bluray 3D doesn't cut the res in half like SBS, but rather uses frame-sequential 3D at 48Hz, meaning each eye gets a full 1920x1080p@24Hz image.

Lol, sorry, yes it was a question. I thougt that was quite expensive for the 3d software and @ that price that it will work on normal displays as well. I really want to play my games in 3d as well, but the 3dtv's are still bit too expensive for me.

Cool bud.... yeah unfortunately it's just another expense to look forward to :cry: Currently I'm in the trial period of both iZ3D and Tridef, so haven't forked out any cash. Both companies have their advantages but I feel I'll settle with Tridef due to ongoing support (iZ3D is restructuring and not focusing on 3D implementation anymore) plus Tridef has added some Phenomenal 3D results for me.

Just as an extra tidbit of info, if you have an nVidia card, Tridef supports it, however nVidia at least has their own inhouse 3D software (also $50) called 3DTV Play, unless you already own their nVision kit, whereafter you can get it for free.

On AMD's side, as they don't support 3D directly, they have deals with both iZ3D and Tridef, where you run a little file confirming you have AMD hardware and then you get 50% off either product.
