3g/hsdpa Usb Modem

My Merlin packet up beginnig of Nov, who knows why. Since we only have the Merlin we were a bit stuck, and had to start using our phones again... Got fed up and applied for another contract the past week. Got the USB E220 modem on Friday. It flies in hsdpa mode, it really does. d'loaded the winding raod magazine in abt under 3minutes (15Mb)

Pre-paid Snakepit

BUT how do you dial or hear voice prompts on an E220 that has no keypad or sound? That is the whole problem. The E220 is just a modem, unless I am missing something.

You can send and receive SMS with the Mobile Connect software that comes with the modem, but that is all.

I do not think that MTN have thought this one through!

With regards to the sim in modem problem can't you use windows phone dialer with head phones?

Anyone tried the windows phone dialer idea?:)

We bought a E220 on Vodacom (reluctantly as we travel a lot and prefer MTN national EDGE coverage) to use on a Mac as they claim to have the drivers. The modem did not come with software, the modem is in fact self loading if you operate on Windows, however for Mac you need to download the software from Vodacom..this is all well and good except the software does not support the new Intel Macs so I had to goto the Vodaphone website to download the latest version of the software. the good news is that any potential MTN Mac user can also do this!!! However teh software had the wrong modem string in it and I had to find the modem string elsewhere to load into the Mac Modem String Library. The modem is now working on an Intell Mac with some blistering fast speeds, much better than my iMate jasJam that claims fast connections but never gets over 120....

Hope that helps other Mac users

FOR MTN DATA DUDE

Hello. Any suggestions on how I can convert airtime into a data bundle without putting the E220 SIM into a normal cell phone (see my earlier post whilst you were on leave)? Also, when is the price of data going to be reduced to something like a reasonable figure??!!

@PJGP

Good evening

There is no way other than dialing 141 or 555 to convert your airtime to either a once off bundle of reoccurring bundle - MTN Marketing are working on the new USSD commands and with that it will include an option whereby you'll be able to covert your airtime - As for the price of data keep you eye out the next two to three months - there's something nice coming up on the 26th but other than that nothing for a while but keep your eye's peeled

Just done the MTN prepaid card, for my 3g/gprs. I was sick of vodacom's instability and also its coverage for 3g/hsdpa.

Found MTN so far to be very good, (when my SE w900i gets a 3g signal).

What's the surprise for the 26th MTNDD?

So know I know! Thanks

However, we still do not seem to be any nearer answering the question as to how, given that the E220 has no keypad or phone facility, I change airtime (loaded by telephone banking from my Telkom phone) into a data bundle. Moving the SIM into a cell phone to do this, and then putting it back in the modem is a real bodge solution.

Well the only way would be via USSD but at the moment there is no option to load a bundle via Ginggs's Tool but Marketing are working on redesigning the *141 menu so will keep u guys posted

Is this because the *141 menu doesn't currently have an option to load a bundle? I'm not familiar with the PAYG system.

Totally correct

*141 currently only gives you how much airtime you've got left on your account

Do you have a driver for WIN'98 and what is the link?

Good day,

The E220 is Windows 2000 and XP compatible I don't think it will work on Windows 98 - The drivers are preloaded on the E220
