Hey myBB'ers,

What is the best approach to setting up a Telkom Mobile 3G connection in Windows 7?

A mate of mine has a Cell C USB modem that he has put a Telkom Mobile sim in. He is also still using the Cell C software to connect to the internet. I want to uninstall the Cell C software and delete all the dial-up/VPN connections and start from fresh.

Do I need any special software to use the Telkom Mobile 3G connection or will Windows 7 take care of it all stand-alone?
Are there any special settings I'll need or just
username: guest
password: guest?

TIA.

Should be automatic. APN should be internet, which is all for the big service providers. It's by default.

I use Cell C connector to connect to any network.. That software is exactly the same as Telkom (8ta) one, just different colors :D

like Chrome said.. APN = internet.. no user or password

You can create a dail-up with win 7 without all the software, but just remember to install the drivers for the modem.

dail *99#
user = null
password = null

Thanx all. I'll give it a bash when next I get a chance and let you know.

From what I'm hearing I think first I'll delete all dial-up connections a try with just the Cell C software.
If no joy, then disable Cell C software and add a dial-up connection.

Telkom Mobile made it very easy to access the internet and check your balance even if your internet settings are wrong.

The correct apn would be internet but should you try to connect to any of these mymtn, lte.vodacom.za, apple.cellc.za, vdata or vlive you should still be able to connect to the internet so long as you are not trying to use the proxy from the other providers.

Checking balance is the same. *188# is the correct way but using *141#, *101# or *100# would also work for checking your balance.
