Is anyone else able to use 3G on virgin?

Superman89, are you using the normal virgin internet settings?

No, not the case. I can't access CellC 3G via my Virgin Sim, a normal CellC Sim works fine on the other hand

I can confirm this. I stay in Richards Bay. Just got 5.2Mb/s download and 1.1mbs upload on my Virgin mobile simcard that I got when Virgin mobile launched. Used it in my HTC Desire. It works 100% with CellC's new 4Gs service.

So I think I'm going to rather use my Vrigin mobile sim cause data is R0.60 per MB and CellC for the exact same service is R2 a mb if you don't buy that internet package from cellc.

Any chance you could check your HTC's vdata settings. Am on android as well.

Strange thing is I just tried to get on the 3G network again and it let me on, yet I cannot get internet access (it works over gsm).

I deleted the settings there and added a new setting there. Just added the apn setting to vdata.

I think I know why. The new Cell C 4Gs network only alows for that speed on UMTS 900. Most phones including my sony ericsson has 3.2mb/s 3G capabilities but I can't connect to CellC's network. So I think its cause it doesn't support UMTS 900. Maybe that is the problem?

No, I have the Galaxy S which supports UMTS 900... Must be the SIM or the settings

The normal Settings from Virgin Mobile work on my Android (x10)

You are right, thou any W-CDMA / UMTS device supporting 900MHz will work on the Cell C 3G network.

Cellphones that only have 3G no hsdpa support but yet have 900MHz 3G work, saw it on that Nokia 2xxx that cell C sells. My usb modem also is 3.6 but works with Cell C / Virgin
Doesn't matter what speed,or make long as the device supports 900MHz W-CDMA/UMTS or whatever you want to call it.

Im thinking maybe that area in Cape Town(because tim182 said that Cell C 3G works) ,so my best guess is try other areas in Cape Town or better yet come to Durban and try it out lol

Must be then. But it should work. So now you can fiddle to get it to work cause it should.

Cool. Anyways now I'm seriouslly confused. Cause Virgin mobile charge 60c per mb and CellC charges R2 per mb for the exact same service. So cellc spends all the money upgrading and Virgin mobile just like piggy back on CellC but gets the same service but gives it cheaper? <Confused>

Downloaded a 1mb Android app and R35 airtime gone! Serious billing issues with Virgin Mobile. When I called 123 She said she can see that. When I asked how can that be she didn't know what to say. ****ed up Virgin Mobile! Be prepared to be over charged when using 4Gs on virgin mobile....

EDIT:

Never mind. All money have been credited. Seems that when the data connection is active while requesting the balance it gives you a false balance cause with 3G you can use voice and data at the same time. With 2G the data connection gets placed on hold while you use voice.

LOl,always check ur balance once the data connection has ended.Thats where the rounding of happens.

The question of how come virgin data is less, cause they resell the product they dnt have to fit any costs like cellc does, like 8.ta using Mtn network but their rates are less,..as I said before Who said roaming was bad lmao, you should see the amount of networks in uk using one network, they share alot there
