40% drop in ADSL prices?

This smacks of disinformation, intended to promote a false sense of hope, and lessen anti-telkom sentiment.

A bit like rumours ina POW camp that the war is soon to end, or a rumour in a refuge camp about soon-to-arrive supplies....
 
seeing is believing, however we have heard this one before.

if they do drop prices it would be great don't get me wrong. but we have all already been so ripped of that its a little bit late to restore any sentiment in the incumbent.
 
I'd rather continue having 192k/20-24kB/s but pay less, ie if its 40% then it would drop to R162.. which combined with lowcost isp it begins to look better.

just for home use, i'd rather save R100 and put that towards petrol or retirement.

I agree, with the cost of bandwidth I have no need to anything faster then 192K. As it is, I could eat up the bandwidth in next to no time. The only benefit of the 384K line to me is the up speed for Skype calls.

Or if you prefer the perspective Telkom are probably going to take:

50% increase in the minimum ADSL speed 192kbps = 384 kbps
- 10% price increase
= average of 40% savings.

I've recently returned from the UK and having had a 10Mb line (no cap + telephone + free weekend phone calls + satelite TV with more variety than DSTV I might add) I gladly forked out the R600p/m they asked from me.

I think I'm more likely to spend my next lot of cash building an informal WiFi network than upgrade to ADSL and stick to 3G for my email and surfing.
 
I'm happy with the 192 line, I signed a contract for 192 and they cant force me to upgrade to 384 + expect me to pay 10% more.
 
Personally I would also prefer a big decrease in bandwith and local uncapped again..

typo :) : I'd like a big decrease in wholesale bandwith prices... to something like pre Nov 2005 levels...
 
I also heard from a telkom-adsl dude (also pissed at the time) that theyre planning on bumping up line speeds. I asked "when", he said "soon", but this was 2 months ago or so, so who knows, but there must be some truth to the rumour?
 
why do people always get bandwidth and allowed transfer muddled up?

Bandwidth = the size of the pipe (ie. the speed of your line)
Transfer allowance = how much data you are allowed to put through the pipe before being disconnected (capped)

Seems like most telkom techies spend a lot of time drunk? lol
 
It's the only way they can sleep at night when their conciouses are racked by guilt for working at the big T.
