Hey helpful folk,
We're in the market for a telly to replace the 24" LCD monitor we were using for our Xbox and HTPC. The area's about 3.5mx3.5m and there's a window on one side, probably 1.5m from the intended telly.
I've had a viewing of the LG 42LS4600 at Makro (according to another store no-one else has stock of these). Not exactly the best space to base a decision on, but I wasn't exactly impressed with the PQ of the screen. Overall, most of the dozens of screens seemed to have unimpressive quality (viewing some HD soccer match with bright blues, reds and the green grass).
Next up, I viewed a Samsung 40EH6030 amongst a variety of other screens at Cats Digital and was quite impressed by the clarity of the image compared to supposedly better models.
We will not be watching TV channels, but rather series and movies from the HTPC and using the Xbox360, all hooked up via HDMI cables into a Marantz receiver which will be hooked up to the TV via HDMI too.
We're not keen on spending more than 7.5K on the screen. Sizewise, a 42" would be the perfect size (for now anyway), but we'd be satisfied with the 40", if the image is clear and sharp enough, without input delay for gaming.
