42" LG LED vs 40" Sammy

i see u get walka and HD pvr with the 40" this weekend....if only i could sell my 40" samsung LCD FHD quick enough :(

I have a 5 series 39"/100hz sammy and Lg55"/200hz, and Lg is far superior.
Ignoring the pic quality, the lg plays everything i throw at it, mkvs, 3d mkvs at 10-20gb a movie, while sammy plays most but not all, sammy also cannot read my Fat32 drive yet can read ntfs, and sound on sammy not so great.

If it's the 5003 then the box says 100hz but it's actually 50hz.

Yeah I understand that but most of my viewing will be in SD, with only about 15% BR Rip movies, that's why I thought it would be better to go plasma.

Definitely better for SD. Much better bang for buck overall, with superior picture quality under dimmer conditions than entry - mid LCD. No brainer. :)

Samsung plasmas have better out the box performance, especially on Movie Mode (closest to calibration). No real reason I mention them more than LG.

I wish you'd stop this bull, SD content is only better on hdr plasmas. The larger the screen the crappier the quality is going to look as well.
Plasmas aren't magical, they suffer the same inherent problems an LCD would, only so many pixels are on it. If the engine is good on a tv it can do a good job of cleaning the SD content up, but it doesn't matter if it's LCD or plasma.
So remember SD content will look better on hdr, especially 1024x768 as its closer to source so less upscaling and less artifacts occur.
The rest for average users is true a plasma does offer screen size at better price.

It's not bull. In my experience FHD plasma is also more forgiving to SD than FHD LCD. Less so than HDR plasma which is obviously the best though.

39", do you perhaps mean 37"?

Series 5 = 50Hz. Some recent ones marketed as 100 CMR.

A 200Hz LG implies much higher end, not surprised the PQ is better. :)

There is a 39" tv saw it at game. Also you've gotten bitten by your own bias on sd content and plasma sorry. Pixel density will also play a major role

No I haven't. Why do so many others report SD to be better on FHD plasma? Literally a post a week confirming it. Are they wrong?

Really where? Or perhaps they don't have any other tv to compare against, generally Samsung has a good 2D processor on the 5 series up so SD content wont be as horrid as some people are lead to believe. My series 5 LCD Sd looks fine hell even the cheapo Logik in the room at the right distance isnt so bad.
So yes SD content isnt going to be so bad on a tv with a good processor or even from the right distance. Just you keep making it sound like plasma are magic and even screen resolution and size are not a factor.

Well this forum, constantly, by people who've compared.

Which SD are you talking about? DSTV SD via DSD1131 looks horrid on my LA32C550. SD from my PC looks fine.

But, plasma (be it HDR or FHD) is more forgiving for SD. What else is one to make of this trend? It is indeed magic for those who appreciate SD but are put off by how LCD handles it. :)

But analogue SD is just as horrid on a 1080p plasma like an E550. I see no difference in comparison to my 1080p LCD or LED.

HDR plasmas are the best for analogue SD (close 2nd after a CRT) but thats because of their low HDR resolution closely matching that of source, not because they are plasma.

Duh, and irrelevant to whether previous poster commenting on SD via analogue decoder vs PC etc.

Mine and many others' experience says that 1080p plasma has the edge over 1080p LCD. It's slight but enough to be more forgiving.

Thats not what my eyes tell me.

I actually went and checked the analogue SD PQ on my 1080p LCD, LED & plasma just be before posting. Unlike your reliance on plagiarism, I use real first hand experience.

Likewise. Nothing wrong with using others' experience though. They can't all be wrong. You know well there's at least one post a week of people who've done the comparing who attest to superior SD PQ, be is slightly or not. :)

I dont dispute they're being truthful about they're experiences.

The difference is I know each of my TV's has been calibrated to its maximum potential PQ. In contrast you'll never know if any variance experienced by others is due to better settings or factory presets on one of them, or genuinely better peak performance, thats the problem with plagiarism vs real first hand experience.

Sorry for late reply, but it is 39", and 5 series but bix says 100hz, was difficult to find specs/reviews on it.

But you can't deny that it then comes down to your subjective opinion/appreciation. As much as I respect that you own modern 1080p LCDs and a 1080p plasma (and that you're chuffed about it), yours is not the be-all and end-all just because you own it. I much preferred the plasma's picture with your Supersport HD comparison. This is usually the case with LCDs and plasmas to me. And I generally don't believe the LCDs can be tweaked to give as good a picture.

Thats the difference, I dont have to believe, I go and test/compare it practically for myself.

Sure for questions like which looks best there is subjectivity based on preference, but for more simpler questions like is the a notable difference between analogue SD PQ on 1080p plasma vs. LCD/LED, my TVs show me a pretty clear cut answer, no.

3 models isn't all that objective.

There is a difference though, notable or not (on your tellies).

No going to repeat myself again, this section has been polluted enough with your desire to continue arguing inconsequential matters.
