It's out of maintenance so the suspension is going to cost around R60k to fix, and a friend who has just gone through the same palava and spent the R60k has just had schit with his again - same bloody issue. They even brought out a spring suspension version in the Disco 4 afaik because of the schit they had with the Disco 3 suspension and the perception issues it has caused...

Downgrade in what sense? It's a 2008 SE, so not really equipped with all that much. Great 4X4, but the suspension is crap, the GPS is atrocious, the transmission is really sluggish and delayed. In comparison the Santa Fe comes with a whole heap of bells and whistles, but the 4x4 and ground clearance are concerns. I don't think the 185 is really sufficient, especially considering the Disco sometimes has issues with clearance on the odd occasion...

What's wrong with the air suspension? My mates went faulty last year and he had it fixed at a independent landy place and from what I recall it wasn't more than R12k, had to have a pump/compressor replaced and a bag I think.
 
If you struggled with ground clearance on the Disco you are going to bottom out big time with the Sante Fe!
 
I see that the 3.0L V6 VM Motori Turbodiesel which also powers various other vehicles like the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Ram 1500 pickup. This Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel is rated at 21/28 mpg (8.4 / 11.2 L/100 km). In a test on motortrend.com, they got 26.4 mpg (8.91 L/100 km) combined driving during evaluation loops. They got on average 22.9 mpg (10.27 L/100 km) over their entire trip (taking in regard several legs).

only if you're stupid enough to take it to the stealers! My local indie fixes the compressor properly - he doesn't replace it, he takes it apart, fixes the part and puts it back together and doesn't get returns. At most it'll cost R2K-R3K, in labour mostly.

I love Subaru's, but the Tribeca look's like a horse's arse! Maybe the new diesel outback?
Edit: I actually though of the previous generation Tribeca. The new one's not that bad looking.

Deflates overnight and can't handle rough terrain any longer. Apparently a common issue with the air suspension and one that returns...

Yeah, but now there is an excuse to buy a new car. The Landy is old, someone else can have it now...

The Outback always reminds me of a station-wagon. The Tribeca I just don't like the look of. It's a little dated and boring...
