It can be, but it's not usually an issue. As I said, only if you do not know what you're doing.

Look at this obstacle (Matroosberg), two vehicles made it up there: a heavily modified 110, driven by a very experienced offroader, and a bog standard D3, driven by a n00b:

DJ wait a month a get the discovery 4. R616K new and it'll be the car that makes you the happiest! You're always going to feel like you compromised if you get anything else.
 
Ford should really replace the current Ford Everest with the Ford Explorer in SA.

...and Nissan should remove that excuse they call PathFinder... it is horrible and aged dramatically and nearly everything destroys their Patrol in competition. I still like the Nissan Navara though.

Price ranging around 600k, I really can only recommend the Grand Cherokee and Prado, when you actively have to do 4x4 once or twice a year.

Actually looks really good but a little small.

The 7 seater thing is actually more for storage space than needing 7 people in the car. The fold-down space available in the Disco makes disposing of multiple bodies at a time far easier. In a smaller car I'd have to make two trips, and then the fuel efficiency argument comes up...

Too pricey. Cash transaction, and the budget is firm. Also not happy with Land Rover suspension issues. I know the coil suspension is available but I'm farming for options now. Gadgets like keyless entry, rearview cameras, adaptive speedo etc all make me fuzzy inside as well...
 
We went to Kosibay last month and my Tiguan bottomed out with 200mm ground clearance. With a few people in the car 185mm on the Santa Fe is going to make you cry!

Boet, I'm going to say this again: air suspension issues are rare with the D3/RRS/RR.

If they occur, they are very easily and cheaply dealt with by indies.

If you keep getting issues with your air suspension, the problem is most likely a PEBKAC one.


Most people buy a sophisticated D3 and don't even learn how to use it properly.

Thanks, I appreciate the effort you're going to to keep the Land Rover going, but it's being sold now. Someone else can have the suspension issues...

DJ, I see you're in Joburg. Do yourself a favour and phone Landyworx (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Landyworx/624019214290821) and get them to have a look.

If anything, they can sort out the issue (cheaply) so that you get a better trade-in on the vehicle ;)

Thanks Naks. Been offered a very good trade-in on the car already, not altogether concerned about it. Going to head off to watch some reviews of the cars shortlisted and will let you know...
