4x4 SUV under R600k...

What about a Touareg? I don't think anyone's mentioned that yet.

Ground clearance is 220mm (default, can be raised). Plenty of 2nd hand, year-old models with low KMs that come in below your budget. The 3.0L V6 TDi is 180kW and 550Nm. Combined usage figure of 7.4.

Quite schmexy too, I reckon. Much better looking than the Sante Fe, interior and exterior. To me anyway.

The cheapest model is packing a 600 000+ price tag.

Which is why I specifically mentioned 2nd hand. :p

Saw those new prices and went :wtf:. 2nd hand some schmo already took the biggest knock and you'll likely get some extras, too.

No you do not want a second hand Touareg...the last version of this car was horrible and definitely not worth the price when you can get a new jeep for the same money. That said, the new Touareg is brilliant. Weird for VW to price a car higher than an Audi equivalent.

But the year old ones (2012 models, could be Nov/Dec) are the "new shape", so it's fine.

And I'd take a Touareg over any Jeep pretty much any day of the week. Not that I don't like Jeep, Wranglers are awesome, and Grand Cherokees. :p

Okay. You asked for it. :p

Saw this a while back, but wasn't going to post it, as it is the 2014 Grand (not available locally yet).

Low mileage Range Rover Evoque just made the list as well.

Beautiful car, very fuel efficient, great ground clearance and handles off-road really well apparently...

It's extremely small, even smaller in real life than what i looks in pictures. Not sure if you can compare it to the bigger cars you have listed.

True. Will have to check it out and make a call...

the new forester XT pretty nice I must say

Dont think the Lexus RX has been mentioned, may not be a looker to some but Lexus is short of nothing featurewise but that damn ground clearance at 185mm, now just go get a Wrangler :)

Huh? Was told that it comes with a 5 year/150,000km plan...

The product page doesn't mention a comprehensive maintenance plan (only warranty and service plan), and you will undoubtedly be offered one for an extra ~R20k when they quote you.

I would second the options of waiting a lil bit and get the Disco 4... its a massive upgrade over the Disco3, and with the coilover suspension they're apparently epic Offroad with practically no issues.

I would avoid the Evoque if you are looking for a 7 seater... they can barely take 4 average height adults.

Of course you could slum it like the rest of us, get yourself a Defender 90, spice it up for your offroad adventures and have a decent saloon for every day driving
