I can get a 5G router cheaply through my son in Canada. I don't know what frequencies we will be using in SA for 5G. Does anybody know what specifications I need to look for and are 5G routers backward compatible to LTE and LTE-A?

cool story bro...

I'll rather wait and see what is available locally before having him send/bring it over, before SARS hold on to it because of ICASA regulations .

Anybody know how useless/useful the new Minister of Communications is? Judging by the last one, its a miracle we've even got to 4G. 5G is a lifetime away.

Well, they say they going to release more spectrum for mobile operators next year and Rain already has spectrum for 5G which they are previewing towards the end of November 2018.

We don't really have 4G till the essential services like VoLTE and VoWiFi are implemented correctly. For some it is already on 2-years trial and users still cannot depend on these services, the only reliable service is VoWiFi from Cell C - surprise.
