Edit:
Virtual 7.1 good reviews: Corsair 1500
Stereo, but very good! Bought these for my GF: Steelseries Siberia V2
Stereo, very very good. Own these myself: Asus Vulcans
Proper 5.1, good reviews: CM Sirus
Virtual 7.1, many people swear by these: Logitech G35

Titan Ice does have the Razer Tiamat 7.1 in stock @ slightly less than R2k.

This headset is extremely short supplied world-wide as result of it being an awesome product.

Thanks Guys! Ordered and paid for! :)

Some examples please? Although I'm looking for something a lot more cost effective than R1500+

So this combo?

Asus Xonar DG PCI Sound Card

Sennheiser HD202

Brilliant!

Much better than gaming crap and those evil marketers who take advantage of kids. :p

It's rather pointless to get a decent sound card when you just have the low end Sennheiser HD202's.

It is worth while to get a nice sound card when you go for like the Sennheiser HD555 or better.

For gaming, a sound card will give 5.1/7.1/better directional accuracy. :)

The things are cheap. Xonar DG with headphone amp at R350, Xonar DS at R550, etc. Might as well. Excellent experience for sub R1k.

Zalman clip-on mic for R60 - http://www.zalman.com/global/product/Product_Read.php?Idx=678.

I have the DG card and use it with my Vulcans, definitely makes a difference! But an integrated mic is so much better than that clip on.

I also think that for gaming, its more useful for certain sounds to be exaggerated than exact reproduction. I've listened to some sennies, granted not the really expensive ones, but I couldn't perceive an increase in sound quality over mine. I actually thought mine sounded better.

Bought the Corsair Vengeance 2000 last week. Amazing headset, coming from Roccat kave with sound card, these are even better with their 50mm drivers and no imitation vibration bass. The best feature is probably the wireless, it felt weird not having a cable running from your head between your arm and body and so cool to just get up and go get a drink, close door, put fan on or erm go the toilet without taking your headset off and still being able to chat/listen to music. They are also super comfy, I prefer the memory foam and microfibre earcups to the sweaty pleather/leather of other sets. All for R1100.

Get your ears tested. :p :D

Bold statement. Elaborate?

HD5xx are bright (some of the best sub R2k headphones). But nothing below R5k is going to give reference ("exact reproduction") sound.

Crazy when comparing HD5xx to crappy Razers by price.

gary thats a brilliant gift. son is lucky. i got my laaitie fifa13. now i feel a bit sif.:erm:

i detect a derailment in progress...

Hell of a stretch.

This is what I've had until now, the other earphone broke now.

Ouch, got some cartilage build-up in your ear? :D

Most earphones produce better sound than most headphoens and speakers. In-ears are very good, tried them? Nice bass, makes people go wow - and then you add a Skullcandy/Beats logo... ;)

Haha ok by "exact reproduction" I don't mean reference sound as recorded in studio. Bad use of wording on my part.
I was eluding to the fact that most if not all "audiophiles" on this forum will just say get sennies because they crisp, have the high's mid's and low's and what ever audio buzz words etc etc..

With my set (Asus Vulcans) and the GF's (Steel series Siberia v2) through my DG, in BLOPS2 I can hear the faintest of footsteps very clear. And if you played BLOPS2 you'll know how soft they are.
Now with decent software you can set it to exaggerate certain sounds which I also do.

But my point is, a lot of the heat sets are designed to be stronger in a certain range as opposed to more neutral.
I hope that kinda makes sense?

But anyways..
Nice buy! I'm sure your son will enjoy them!
