I have an android based device connected to my car's audio system, which I want to use to stream my favourite internet radio stations from across the globe. I'll be driving mostly around central Gauteng. Will 8.ta be suitable for this ?

Their coverage maps for most areas state they only have 2G (Gprs) coverage instead of 3G.

Most of the urban areas in Central Gauteng have 3G coverage. 8ta themselves have no 2G network... that's when they roam on MTN.

I don't see it won't be any good, but I can imagine its gonna cost you a bit

It depends on the coverage for your area, take 2GB prepaid for 150 rands. Try it out for a while and then decide.
For me its very good ad very fast, not like CellC.

Wrong. Of course, they have 2G network, the same one used for GSM voice. Otherwise non-roaming SIM would not be able to make calls and connect on 2G.

Just to add my 2c here. 8ta has 2G and 3G towers.

I have a 8ta sim that can roam and be on the 8ta network.

MTN network has 2G and 3G and the 8ta network has 2G and 3G so yes they have edge too on the 8ta towers.
