8800 GT, Worth It, Heat Issues ?

It doesn't. Just like the steup program from Evga doesn't apply here.

To take advantage of the XFX double life time warranty you would have to return it to XFX themselves not the local supplier here.
 
My GT idles at 25 degrees :), hottest its gotten so far is 40 degrees. This is just on air cooling with minor overclocking: the Raidmax Aztec rocks (but only if you put another blue LED fan in there to make the grand total 6 :D)

Download ntune from nvidia's website and use nvmonitor.

Their cards aren't exactly like everyone else's. Their super clocked cards usually use better coolers than the stock nvidia coolers. Also they do guarantee much higher overclocks than most of the other brands.

But else you are importing the local pricing is way way over the top. Hopefully that changes soon. We only recently got a local supplier in Foxcompt so hopefully with time we start seeing decent prices and get the stepup program.:)
 
Hey stefan do you know wether the EVGA SSC card is the stock Nvidia cooler or a better one? I think its the stock Nvidia one? Correct me if im wrong plz as im thinking of getting this one :D

EDIT: And the EVGA cards now come with a 10year local warranty i have been told :p

The money isn't really worth it. My 6600GT with 256mb RAM which I got at a discount from the supplier renders games just as well as a 8800GT for the most part, is seeing individual blades of grass rendered "perfectly" that much better than 'just' green grass rendered? If you truly want to see perfect grass go outside!
Anyway, I have a friend with a R25 000 PC, he loads Frozen Throne maps (DOTA) faster than I do, but there isn't any discernible difference in appearance. So when we LAN his PC hits the "waiting" screen first by a few seconds, but he still waits for the slowest PC on the LAN along with everyone else. Moral of the story, please explain to me why ppl spend R8000 on graphics cards?

Faster loading times has nothing to do with the graphics card. And if he has a 25k machine that he uses solely for DOTA, then that's a serious waste of money. But buying 8k cards in general, I suppose some people have the money, and if you do, why not get the best, and have your grass renderer perfectly!

Try to run any decent game at 1680x1050 with that card. My 6600gt struggled with oblivion when it came out.

And no a lot of people don't spend R7000 on gfx. Many people wait for the midrange and spend R2500.

Some of us go high end because then generally the cards last longer and you retain more resale value for a longer period.

Yes I know disk, motherboard, ram, CPU. The point is his expensive PC, does not discernibly outperform a PC worth R10000. So why waste so much money on a 8800?

like people who buy an expensive car, but live in a crap house, its money in the water. Klerksdorp for one.
Higher resolutions sound good, but at that price? My PC is 3 years old now, used charts from tomshardwareguide to get the best value for money components. Can't say that spending R2000 more would have made a difference in what my "user experience" is today.

With a more expensive GFX card you can run games at a higher resolution and at higher graphics setting in the game. Im not saying buy a R8000 card, but you will be able to run everything on high without fail.(except for crysis...LOL!)
Point is your 6600GT will NOT perform in the same universe to a 8800GT.

Yeah foxcomp offers an fantastic warrantee.

Not sure if for the 8800 gt they use their own cooler but for the 8800 gtx Evga and BFG were one of the few who used their own coolers. But it doesn't really matter since EVGA allows you to install aftermarket coolers , it's part of their warrantee.

BTW the ssc is the highest clocked Evga 8800 gt. Enjoy it.

I know what you mean, but if you want to play the latest games then unfortunately you have no choice. You could go for a 3850 which is cheaper, but you will suffer with anything below that.

As long as the house is safe and secure I rather buy a crappy house and get an uber pc.:D and spending money wisely is a matter of opinion and depends what you enjoy and what you like to do with your money.

I hope to :D Well at least until i see what the 8800GTS 512 SSC will eventually do:D I just wish they would get stock already! They were supposed to arrive 2 fridays ago:(

On evga.com all the 8800 gt's are on back order. No wonder your struggling to get a card. There's a shortage globally.
