8Mbps ADSL 'needs a bit more work'

Yay. Let me burn through my tiny cap at twice the speed.
 
Kind of cool, though I'm hoping that when they do introduce the 8mbit line, the 512 line will be more affordable. The jump from 386 to 512 is fairly significant considering the amount of improvement in speed.

One would assume that any 8 Mbps ADSL launch will be accompanied by higher usage limits. I will in fact be surprised if higher usage limits will not be here before an 8 Mbps offering...

Wow, glad to see someone with a bit of authority making such optimistic statements, personally I think (and hope) so. Then again, I'm not as bandwidth deprived as I was with Cybersmart's Nightrider special.

Still, would be nice to be able to do video skype call with a top picture quality webcam and at the full 30fps with my family in Hong Kong.
 
I would like to see this happening but I remain pessimistic because I know that they can't even "4Mbps" to work properly. An 8mb service would mean that users like me would have twice the amount of problems and still only a quarter of the speed.
 
Anything more than 1.8-2.0km from the exchange - this is going to cause nightmares

The current situation of copper infrastructure & maintenance is of such low standard/priority to Telkom that without deploying UMCs all over the show this is going to be a huge mess. (99% sync problems) :(
 
Thought one, they should buy some backhaul from Neotel... :p

Thought two, how will they offer 8Mbps ADSL? As 2Mbps "up to 8"? :confused:
 
The 8MB/s speed is all good and well, but how many current ADSL lines can actually attain these speeds? It looks like a lot of people will have to wait for ADSL2 where the copper is shortened and how long will this take?
 
they should up-grade every one that is on the 384 to 512 and 512 to 1024 and then have the other the other option of the 8 mb adsl line ....

Me wish so too !!! Also up the 4mb to 8mb , when you think back thats what they did to the 1mb users a few years ago. I was upped from 1mb to 4 mb without knowing , just noticed my connection was k@@@@@k faster one night , heres hoping that it will be the same this time around !! Fark , imagine 8MB.....sad part is the rest of the world laffs at our broadband speeds , my friend says 384 cannot be described as broadband its dialup speed.....LOL
