8ta 10gig myth

@ 8ta

Can you confirm that the 10GB pm is not valid for the entire 24 month contract? Once this Hulk promo expires does it revert to the 5GB from i5?

Just want to make sure i get 10GB for 24months :)

Thanks

Internet 5 Promo (10GB monthly data bundle) at R 199 per month (1.9 cents per MB)

Fair enough, but in all the promo write ups on MyBB its always mentioned that this is a PROMOTIONAL offer, my exp is that this offer will end and you will be stuck with 5GB instead of 10GB once the promo ends..

It is for the full 24 months

Agreed,

I went to Cresta on Saturday around 2pm to sign up. I went, signed up. Was told +- 1 1/2hrs for activation. Today I still have nothing.

After phoning 081 125 to get some help I was just hung up on. I phoned again and was told they cant help with anything. So I then phoned 081 180 and get told, oh, nothings on the system. Yet I have the sim card in the 8ta modem hoping for something to work. It looks like the incompetent fool at Cresta hasn't done her job as she promised and nothings working. Now apparently I have to go back and queue again to try get something done. Typical incompetence by Telkom. It seems they are unable to employee people who know what customer service is and how to do their jobs.
Please forward your contact details to [email protected] and we will investigate.

I'm now uncertain if I'm doing something wrong.

I'm asking the store people for a "10gig 3g promotion contract", this is correct right?

The following stores cant help me with the contract:

Irene Village Mall
Midrand Boulders Shopping Centre
Centurion Mall
Menlyn Mall

I've given up trying to get it though :( went for another 5gig data bundle from cellc.
Now I have internet again.
Please forward your contact details and a short description of your experience to [email protected].

Is it just me, or does it actually take a week to get a contract approved?

Only you (and a few others).
Took 15 minutes.

Scan the 8ta threads and see which 8ta or Telkom Direct shops have been complimented for their service. Steer clear of those that have been criticised!

8ta Rep

Please advise on any progress on the offering of prepaid bundles.

This would be a win for 8ta as you get money upfront for 6, 12 months and it broadens the market as contracts entail more checking (credit etc).

Yaaay! Hurry up though... I would rather not sign myself for 2 years at the rate technology is changing!

Which begs the question: Why are most contracts still only available 24 months these days? Technology changes every 3-4 months, let alone 24! I think that service providers should look into making all their contracts available in 12-month versions as well. Obviously it will be a little more expensive, but at least you won't be tied down for eternity!

SHiBBY: not so fast, son! :) Yes, progress is going forward EVERY MINUTE, but commercialization of progress can take years... Add here classic SA place behind a whole world and you'll get your "progress" on pension. :))
Do you know about 3GPP LTE? (4G) Somewhere it's reality. SA cannot provide even ridiculous 10Mbit on ADSL line(!!!!). God cries above SA, but ease it with nice weather :)))

I got my 8ta 10GIG contract last week, i decided on the friday, went to the telkom direct store in Clearwater, 20min later walked out with my SIM. Plugged it into a vodafone modem, stuck into a TP-LINK router with USB 3G support which keeps the connection active and now i can enjoy 670kb/s download speed.

Added the evening 10GIG special so effectively i am getting 20GIGs per month...... Goodbye iBurst!!

Anyone know how to check balances without having to remove the simcard from my router (its quite annoying )? I'm using the Telkom huawei E960 3g router ..

Click on iPad Portal and register there. I know it says iPad Portal but there is another section in there where you register as a standard user, you will be able to check your bandwidth balances there

Thanks for the info, this is the solution for those of us with a router connection.

My best experience with 8.ta comes via the phone - having them call me after posting an online request. They call back same or next day, very helpful, and they say rather do sign-up over the phone because the in-store paperwork can be slow. Over the phone they check your credentials, verify address and signal strength and once deal is made, they deliver SIM. To purchase a modem I still need to go to one of their stores.

My experience at two 8.ta stores in Midrand...

Telkom in the Boulders said the 10GB promo is not fully rolled out there. They did give me a form and showed me an 8.ta USB modem and quoted prices although they are still awaiting more stock.

AutoPage in Sanridge (next to PnP entrance) says the same; they have the 10GB promo banner in the store room but until 8.ta is ready with putting systems in place (presumably admin systems) they don't have confidence to promote it yet.
