It also seems like 8ta intentionally gives priority to prepaid data users over contract users.

I have done extensive testing with two sims, one the 2gig promo and the other and Internet 5 promo contract sim.

Download speeds on the prepaid sim on average were between 6-8mbps. Never anything below 4. The ping was on average around 35 which is wonderful. Then I put in the Interent 5 promo sim into the exact same stick and the exact same location at the exact same time and the performance is garbage. Never anything higher than 3mbps download and pings are always 80 and higher. Gaming on a line like that is a joke.

Now apparantly these two packages use the exact same coverage, so how is it then that one performs great and the other is useless? I made a thread about this and still got no explenation from the 8ta rep.

All I want is a simple answer. Why does the 2gig sim perform so well and the Internet 5 promo sim so badly? Just give it to me straight. Is it because they put me on a tower further from my home? Is it because 8ta give priority to pre paid data and shafting the contract users? There most be a logical explenation.

I am on the INternet 5 promo so as a non 8ta worker I would say your theory is wrong. You are most likely then connecting to a different tower, you can test this yourself by simply using MDMA connection software (FREE) which will give you the tower id as 8ta will never give out tower location information. If both sims are connecting to the same tower and you see the same big difference in results and the speed test is done via the same server then 8ta will have to do some explaining... my guess.. for some reason it is connecting to a different tower.

Linctagon connects to the same tower, sometimes pick-uo different sector antenna, but signal is weak (around -90dBm). In this conditions any change of modem orientation can influence speed. See other thread.

Just LOL. NOTHING is happening op 8ta. Explain to me how one plays any online game with a 350ms+ ping on a line that keeps disconnecting.

Incorrect, I play Guild Wars 2 using 8ta without any noticeable lag. I don't have roaming turned on. Only using 8ta's tower.

The I5 promo sim always connects to 10404 regardless of modem orientation or area. It refuses to connect to 10401 like the 2gig regardless of what I do. At the same stationary location and nearly resetting the connection 20 times it still connects to 10404 without fail. As soon as I swap the sim out it connects to 10401 instantly. No variables other than the sims. I posted this in the other thread too.

I see your reply in other thread. Very interesting case.

Just a thought, have you tried to connect with the I5 sim first thing in the day before you connect with the 2 Gig? In other words , do you wait a hour before you try the other sim?

Initially I was using the I5 sim exclusively. Only later noting the bad perfromance did I start swapping out the sims to compare results. So there would be no chance of the two sims effecting one another.

Hmm, I think I need to Investigate how 8ta performs where I stay.

I got that Telkom Do Basic thing, which R219 per month. If 8ta's network performs at least over 1mbps, then I will consider moving over there. (I know I have low expectations :D)

Stating facts bro. If the facts are negative then that ain't my problem. The 8ta guy said you can game on 8ta's network when you can't.

Hi there

Fact is, the "8ta guy" said that
gaming is happening on 8ta.
and
Nearly every situation is different.
. We can report your issue as previously requested and see if we can find a resolve?

Hi there

According to the other thread your issue has been resolved by doing a SIM swop. Apologies for not responding sooner.

If there is anything urgent to deal with - we are available via PM which is addressed first as these are direct requests for assistance whereas on forum threads which is usually a general platform to request assistance from whoever can respond. We also have a call centre (081180) as well as a mailbox (social@8ta.com) which is both available 24 hours a day.

Its definitely worth a try... cheapest option would be to get an 8ta SIM, have it converted to a data promo SIM, buy R40 airtime and convert it to a 100MB bundle which will allow you to do some speed tests etc.

It depends on what time and what day I do the test on , yesterday was done during a weekday and some of the others on a weekend, so it all depends on network traffic and congestion , if it was jumping by 100 ms then there is an issue. The connection is still very stable, I guess that is what I am trying to point out. The download and upload would also differ if you do it on different days and times.
If you want to check your connection then do the test on the same time and same day or couple of days for 8 weeks and check the results.
