8ta Internet 5, Slightly Disappointed.

What antenna do you have and where did you buy it ?

go to www.dbg.co.za and buy the antenna booster kit. you can buy the 3G booster and router kit all for R849. you get the 3g router and the entanna with it.
i live 1km away from the tower. dont use the pc to go on PSN, get a 3G router, in that way you can go on PSN without the pc on. just plug in the 3g modem in the 3g router and into you ps3.

I have found that the 21.6mbps modems have poor antenna design; there speeds suffer in weak signal. But the 7.2mbps modems perform better in weak signal conditions..... Just what i have experienced.

A 21 Mbps probably supports a higher modulation, which needs a stronger signal. Lower modulations support weaker signals.

Sorry to ask, I spoke to a sales person and he said I need to get a specific one as The 3g has upgraded and older boosters dont work as well.
Which model did you get ? Thanks

Whats is considered a decent signal strength in dBi

Its not in dBi, its in dB and for 3G/HS it should be greater than -90dB

Channel quality is also very important, your signal could be at -65dB but your quality at like -16dBm, this will give you almost no HS speeds.

Ideal scenario is signal greater than -75dB and quality greater than about -8dBm

i have the TL-MR3420 3g router with the 8ta E367 3g modem, but you first have to update the 3g router to use the E367 3g modem. but you know, i think you should go to their website and check the list of all the 3g modems that the TL-MR3420 3g router supports. the E1820 and E173 and mostly all the E hauwei seriess works on the router. its a really good 3G router. hope this help. just let me know if you need anything.

Thanks Steve, I normally get between 200 and 400 KB/s on downloads so will maybe upgrade my equipment in the future when the quality of service starts to drop.

Thanks man. That helps.

Howdie.

I signed up for the 24 month contract and I bought the Huawei E1820 modem from the 8ta Store.
Needless to say, I am very unsure about the product. More to the point is the speed I am getting.

http://www.speedtest.net/result/1414294333.png

Now I have seen other folks on this forum getting download speeds of 6.00 mb/s on the E 220
modem. That performance is superior to mine by far.Is there anything I can do to improve this
as I like to game online and I have very unreliable performance.I use my Playstation mainly but
I do have the odd Call of Duty PC match.

Gaming is not the only reason. I feel the speed advertised and experienced by others is far greater
than mine.If I applied for the Non Roaming option, Would that help ?

If these are the normal speeds, Is there anything I can do to Improve them ?

Thanks.
Hi, please email your 8ta number, contact details and physical address to [email protected]

You need the Netgear MBRN3000 wireless router. It supports the Huawei E367 modem.

Here it is : http://www.netgear.com/3gsupport/mbrn3000/apac/soutafrica.aspx

*Just shop around for it. Think I saw it at Incredible Corruption, but it was insanely expensive.

Hi i actually purchased the Netgear MBRN3000, and tested on the E367, and it does not work, does not pick up the modem even
after a firmware upgrade.

I am actually returning the router today, any other ideas?

The E367 runs nicely with the MR3420 router.

Hi Kingrob, got this router online for under R900. Couldn't believe what Incredible Corruption wanted.

Do you have this router? I cannot get it to detect my E367, even after a firmware upgrade.

Logged an online support ticket with Netgear. Will see what they come up with.

A friend of mine got one and is extremely happy with it. He is using the E367 with it, but told me that he had to do the latest update as well.

Have you got Vodacom firmware on it?
