I bought the 2GB+1GB Promo for R199 and it is by far the biggest waste of internet i have ever purchased.

My connection drops constantly, downloads fail, internet is slow and gaming is nowhere near possible.

So thanks for wasting my money 8ta. Maybe i'll try you guys out again when you decide to upgrade your network instead of milking your customers.

I think you meant R145.... And yes... for some reason after months of smooth sailing - my connection is also dropping 10 times a day.

Why the hell do people still use mobile internet connections like 3G and HSDPA, it's the most unreliable internet connection ever.

I tried CellC, Vodacom and 8ta last year and all of them sucked, always drops and the speed is crap, I tried using it in Cape Town, then at my brother in Joburg and then also in Bloemfontein and everywhere the connection sucked.

Just get ADSL like real people and you will wonder why you ever used 3G/HSDPA.

Don't you feel a bit sad every month for giving away R110 to Telkom for absolutely nothing, a.k.a line rental?

Real people are people who earn around 3-8k per month, who dont have time and money to waste on telkom and who certainly dont earn 50k per month where a R100 bucks is petty change.

i got 8ta and tbh i have a better connection than what my friend is paying for his 4mb dsl

When CellC works, it is excellent. But the dropped lines are becoming more and more frequent. There was apparently no internet service in Cape Town for several hours this morning, but no-one at CellC knew anything about it.

The best suggestion is to use a well-established ISP like Mweb or Cybersmart who can resolve line problems with Telkom quicker than you can by calling 10210.

My 8ta works out to R150 per month, for 10GB.
what does R150 get you on ADSL?

there are also other things to think about.
-wireless can be used anywhere, ADSL can't
-wireless can indeed be fast. between 2mbs to 9mbs VS 386kbs or 1mbs. Yes you can get 4mbs but it's more expensive, too.
-telkom lines might get stolen in your area
-telkom takes ages to install
-if you live in a flat it might be hard to get adsl
-if you live in the bundu's, adsl might even be imposible.

if you own a house in a metropolitan area and have money for Line rental, 4Mbs and an Uncapped connection, then great, but not everyone has adsl as an option.... remember that.

I would get adsl if i didnt have to pay the +- R110 PM for a line that i would never use. What a waste. I will never get adsl until telkom drops charges or introduces naked adsl

I second that, that is why i got rid of my adsl. For me when 8ta works, it works well and all i use it for is surf the net and play BF3 online every night.

Have you tried moving you dongle to a different spot in the house.

+1 and for that R150 my connection goes upto 2 or 3 times of 1mbs. and that used to cost me R550. the cost proposition for 8ta just suits me at the moment. havent had adsl for a while already...

Or we get areas where Telkom just doesn't have infrastructure or cares to put it in, so I've got no option but to choose a wireless or 3G solution.

My 8ta was magic when I started with it. Constant 4-5 Mb/s speeds, stable connection. Then about 4 months ago it turned to ****, dropping connections, not reconnecting, terrible speed. Now I'm not sure if something somewhere was upgraded, but I've now been connected for about 180 hours, speed still stable, connection rock solid, so yeah, I don't know.
