Hi there,

I got the 8ta contract at the end of last month. It has been working like a bomb except for the fact that there would normally be a 15 min or so disconnect between 11 - 1pm every night.

Lately it has been disconnecting but for long periods of time. This morning I could not work because it was disconnected and last night it was disconnected for about two hours, this has been happening for the past week or so. Is there something going on with 8ta at the moment that I don't know about? It is just a bit of a pain because I use my 8ta for work and gaming and it works beautifully, would just like to know why it disconnects like this?

Thanks :)

You are not alone, there are problems with 8ta hat have recently surfaced this month, ill save the 8ta rep hassle and explain what you need to do, because this is what he will say:

Hi, if the problem persists, then please email [email protected] with the following information:
• Your physical address
• Your 8ta number
• Contact number
• A description of your problem
Thank you

Go ahead and mail them, don't expect anything, I've mailed them twice, got a PM on the boards from the 8ta rep to confirm my e-mail, and still nothing. Still, if they get lots of e-mails they might actually do something.

You're definately not the only one, everything was fine for me too, then suddenly it's just been poor. I'm now going to try see about having my contract cancelled and not paying the cancellation fee, don't see why I should pay to cancel a service which has become unusable suddenly. Heck, I should get my activation fee back on top of it to boot.

I am having the exact same issues, please let me know what you manage with them about the cancellation fee etc.

I have received a case number today, so I'll wait a bit and see if anything comes of that, hopefully it will.

Cell-C had an issue a while ago (about a year) and the there was an issue with their tower (after they finally believed everyon that it wasn't user errors).

Pathetic. I have been trying to get an answer for 2 months now

8ta service reps are ignoring this problem and putting it down to poor service coverage.

To cancel you have to pay R800 + The remaining subscription payments, which is completely pointless and a rip-off.

I cannot see why we should pay the R 800 cancellation fee. I have very bad signal problems with 8ta and I live in Pretoria. I do not have a problem if they charge R 800 and they provide what they advertised. At this point in time I consider it fraud because they advertise one thing and deliver another. I am convinced that this will not stand up in any court of law if you provide the evidence. I have logged a case yesterday so lets see what happens. I get currently get speeds similar to telephone lines. This is absurd. When I subscribed to 8ta everything worked well but I have been having huge problems since beginning of November.

Yip, seems like that's the case for everyone, a few threads are floating around, maybe they can be merged, but as of November everything deteriorated. The least 8ta could do is give some explanation why and when we might expect this to be corrected.

I had the same problem about two weeks ago. I sent an email to 8ta. I never got a reply on any confirmation that it had been received, however the problem went away a few hours later. I dont know if it was fixed due to my email or not.

Now it is not working again, so ill send the email again...

Hi
We would like to investigate.
Please email your 8ta number, contact details, case number and physical address to [email protected].
Please make reference to this thread.
Thank you

Hi, please PM me your email address.

8ta rep, could you maybe comment on why we are being told that to cancel our contract the charge is the remaining payments for the term as well as an R800 cancellation fee hen you quite clearly said there would be no clawback and the contracts originally stated that it would be just the R800 fee?

Here is the quote:

Internet 5 Promo
We will not claw back on any service elements as part of a termination, but only physical hardware which was supplied plus the relevant administration fee. Therefore, any service provided over a fixed term which was supplied without a handset/data device will only carry the R800 administration fee as the termination fee. No further claw back will be done.

From post 24 in this thread:
http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/346267-8ta-10gig-myth?p=6406181&viewfull=1#post6406181

Could anyone confirm this? When I phoned I was told that I would need to pay the remainder of the payments, a blatant disregard for the CPA.

Says it all really. It's obviously not tower congestion, so when is Telkom going to provide enough capacity to carry all the data from 8ta to the rest of the world during peak hours?

These speeds are pathetic.

I think we should all start sending e-mails to Carte Blanche so that they could investigate this. It is in the publics interest so if enough complaints are logged on their website they will investigate and 8ta does not need bad publicity at this stage. You can submit a complaint under submit a story at www.carteblanche.co.za. We cannot just sit back and be screwed by 8ta. We can do something about it. I have logged a case on Tuesday with 8ta with my problems and have not heard anything from them since. It confirms what everybody else is saying on this form that they do not get a response from 8ta. I never had these type of problems with the Vodacom contract that I had. Now I have to spend precious time trying to sort out a connectivity problem that I am paying for.

If i were you guys i would really try do something! hello peter obviously won't work. 8ta is stealing your money guys!!! u basically getting R10 from the R200 you are paying...

Curiously, I've managed to use my 20Gb even though I get dl's of only 40kbps (compared to others getting 400-800kbps).

Keep a close eye on your DL & UL stats people!

Same problem here everything was working fine was loving the speeds and latency but now it's up to ****. Was going to go for the promo five luckily I tested it before biting the bullet.

Is it not the weather? Mine loses signal or goes to edge when its rainy, resulting in k@k speeds...

well until about a week ago i was getting great pings, speed. now for the last week really slow, wonto about 40kb down speed on average. Last night my speed test ping on the myBB site was 987ms. 2weeks ago i was getting anywhere from 32 - 80ms.

8ta speed / latency is really sucky at present.
