8ta problems lately?

Juss like Im glad Im not the only one
In the very beggining when this 10 gig promo 1st came out, I reached 120kbs download on a single file from rapidshare or any other file hosting site. Now 2-3 months later I only reach a max of 30-40kbs on a single file download. Same pc, same area, same location same everything. And to add to this, I am now getting quite a lot of modem dropouts where I have to reconnect. Thus making the download a failure.

Just for interest sake, what causes these low quality connections? Is the problem with the towers? Because I was gaming online like a bomb for the past week with no problems whatsoever, steady pings and high speeds? But the week before that, I also struggled with 1000ms pings and crappy speeds, so obviously something went right since then!

I bought the 10Gig + 10Gig for R299 per month. I also got the E367 21Mbps modem (with extended aerial with 98% signal). I got superb download speeds (5Mbps - 7Mbps, sometimes slightly slower). We bought it for the kids to play online Xbox. We have had it for 3 months now. A couple of nights ago the kids realised they are having a lot of lagg when playing. Last night I checked the download speeds. 38Kbps - 68Kbps. WTF!!!! Have they over sold their data???? Am I now going to end up paying for 2 years for this crap??? Is this how they lure people in and then throttle the lines like everybody else?? Only one kid can now play in the evening at one time where before all 3 could play at the same time. This sux. To everybody out there thinking of getting this, DON'T. It is fast in the beginning and then your line gets throttled to nothing. READ THE 8ta FORUMS AND SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE WITH 10 Gig ARE COMPLAINING. 21Mbps MODEM - 38Kbps download speed. BE WARNED.........
 
It seems that we have some mixed feelings in the house. Opinions are obviously based on experience and it's only understandable that with your current situation, you would not recommend this contract. I on the other hand would encourage it based on the results I have been seeing. Yes there was that one week where things went south for a while, but a single mail to 8.ta social sorted that out right away. Now I'm playing Xbox online like there's no tomorrow!

Perhaps we should start two opposite 8ta threads: Happy, and Unhappy, and see which gets the most posts?

Is this 8ta Rep a bot or something? He always has the same reply or demand/request.

It is now obvious that we all have a problem. Stop treating this issue as if it is isolated and report back here on this thread so we all know what is happening.

8ta must be boycotted and/or see an exodus of "unsubscriptions" and we all don't pay/join forces in fighting this Bait & Switch contract they've advertised.
 
I reach speeds of 300kbps single file download at clayville jbh area. How does that work? Compared to 40kbps in highveld centurion
 
For the passed week my 10gb sim and 2gb+1gb sims have been useless!! they connected for 5 mins the disconnect for 10 mins then connect to really slow edge!! Then they disconnect and reconnect every 5 mins!! i emailed [email protected] but no results...
My dad uses my contract as well and was gonna sign up for his own this week, well thats until his browsing was kak this week!!
im writing this post on edge which makes me sick!! i still have 5gb left that will not be used cause of this rubbish!!!!
if this doesnt get sorted soon i will never buy an 8ta product ever again and i will make sure any one i know never does either!!!

this is pathetic 8ta!!!!!

Some of you guys that complains, does not have your location included on your profile, that helps us readers know in which areas the problems lies. I am based in cape town and thinking of getting the 10 gig contract next month when my cell c 5gig ends. So if I see lots of capetonians complaining, then i will know what not to do.

I'm from cape town and stay in the CBD where there is "good" coverage. Two weeks ago I signed up for 8ta, moving away from my 384kbs adsl line. I thought the lag in gaming would stop...but oh no. Even playing local servers for mw3 I get horrible lag and with BF3 when playing international servers I get my ass handed to me big time. I thought it might be a south african thing but my friends, who have adsl, are not getting lag to the same degree while a buddy of mine with the same 8ta special is. Which is why I started investigating this issue on the net. My buddy recommended 8ta for the price and cap but now I am regretting it. Next week I am cancelling my contract and am prepared to bite the bullet and cough up the 800ZAR as it really isn't worth the rage, irritation, frustration and messing up stats. @ the rep, ctrl+a, ctrl+c, ctrl+v is not a reply but more of an insult. SO i recommend to my fellow cape townian, don't make the same mistake as I did. I'll make sure everyone I know in the gaming community does not make use of 8ta and I will watch the 8ta ship sink. "Telkom-your ISP for life" - I truly hope not!

cfc87, this is ridiculous and I agree with you. I have been trying to sort out the problems with 8ta since the beginning of November and have a case # 126106. Have a look at these bandwidth speeds. This is totally contradictory to the 21 Mps download speeds advertized.


This is ridiculous. I am sure you will be able to use the CPA not to pay the R 800 cancellation fee. 8ta has not delivered what they promised so I see no reason why you should pay the R 800. This forum is full of problems associated with 8ta and the R 800 will not stand up in a court of law since your subscription to 8ta was based on misrepresentation. Maybe we should start a class action against 8ta. That wil create lots of negative publicity which they deserve at the moment. Please submit your story to Carte Blanche at www.carteblance.co.za. We need to expose these guys for what they are.

My experience with the help offered is also not so good so do not be fooled by this. A technician was sent to my premises in Pretoria. He came for 10 mins and established that it need to go to their networks department. It is obvious that they are incompetent since my problem has not been solved since November.
 
I'm not prepared to wait two months for a solution and in the mean time continue to pay for such a poor service. I'm not going to game online with this for even one more day. Last night I was so embarrased to play with my local friends and have such bad lag, it was about 2 seconds. Apparently, I was running at them 'like a sprint to the finish finish line' without even looking through the sights meanwhile in my game I finished a whole magazine on them. I'm off to the 8ta store in canal walk where I will be cancelling the contract. I have three law degrees so I would like to see them try play games with me.
 
Hey guys. Just got back from the 8ta local branch. As I expected, it went badly. As soon as I explained the situation, the guy began to smile and clearly did not take the situation seriously. It was only when I informed him of my credentials that he took me seriously. I asked for a contact who I could deal with. He said that there is no one to talk to but rather, I have to write a letter of motivation explaining why I want to cancel (section 4.2 of the contract agreement). However, the contract says one can terminate “for no particular reason or cause” which is why there should be no need to motivate, one has to simply send a written notice. When I said I would be contesting the remaining balance of the contract and that I wanted to cut out this middle process and deal with someone immediately so that I do not have to pay in the meantime, he said them receiving the letter and sending it off to another division was the only process available, where they would decide the balance to be paid. When I said that I would not pay he threatened that I would be blacklisted. Furthermore, he kept on saying that I signed a 24 month contract and that that was standard procedure. However, I stressed that the contract that I signed ONLY mentioned a ‘reasonable’ cancellation fee and not the remainder of the contract (section 4.2). The only option I now have is to contest this through the judiciary, based on the CPA and other relevant laws. This would hopefully create a precedent if the courts rule against them, that would ensure that all unsatisfied customers can cancel without having to pay the remainder. I will be drafting a letter to the more senior divisions within 8ta to hopefully resolve the matter before it ends up in court. I will keep you up to date with the progress. Despite the poor service of the internet, the service delivery regarding in store help and the complaint mechanisms are even worse. Hopefully, this **** storm will force 8ta to reconsider their services.
 
No use of doing this. i have done this 10 days before and no response. Please stop typing same message for each problem. I even logged a case through call centre and still no response.

Good luck, if it helps on this very forum there is a post by the 8ta rep saying there would be no claw back (and it used to be on their website but try explaining that to them!)
