8ta problems lately?

I've almost given up. I've been trying to get my problems fixed and STILL had no reply to my complaints for 5 months now. Every email, tweet, facebook post is either ignored or given a ctrl+c ctrl+v reply. They are utterly useless and I regret having walked into a telkom store 7 months ago. The only thing I make sure I do now is actively discourage anyone who even thinks of 8ta. While it wont do significant damage to their revenue it at least lets others know that if something goes wrong they will do everything in their power to screw you over and not assist you.

Carry on doing that. I am filling the xbox gaming forums with this thread. I made the mistake of signing up without doing research on the forums. I'll make sure that fellow safa gamers don't do the same.

Joining the unfortunately long list of people who've seen a dramatic decrease in quality 2-3 months after signing on.

I got the 8ta 10GB package back in October and I've been receiving consistently high speeds up until the start of this month - now I'm being constantly moved from a strong-signaled HSPA+ to the unbearably slow EDGE 15-30 minutes after connecting which makes basic tasks such as visiting Google or checking emails impossible. It's got progressively worse over the last few weeks and I've had it happen a total of seven times just in the last two hours - I sent them an email last Tuesday and have yet to receive a response, though I did use their contact form and not the social@8ta address mentioned in this thread so hopefully I'll have better luck with that and report back if/when I hear something positive.

Here's my speedtest results for anyone interested.

On HSPA+:

On EDGE:

Something else worth mentioning is that I took a chance when signing on as the coverage map said I wouldn't receive a signal in my area, but the map has since been updated to show that I should now get full coverage. Ironically, I'm actually getting a worse signal now than when I wasn't officially supposed to get one at all...

I have the same issues. When I got this deal is was super fast but now I can't do two things at once. When downloading a torrent I can't browse the internet. I can only do one thing at a time. The speed isn't even worth mentioning.

Hey, at least you can do just one thing :p I'm keeping track of how often I'm put onto EDGE and I'm up to 12 times in the last four hours - at one point I left to get a cup of coffee after reconnecting and was on EDGE when I came back, so it doesn't look like anything I'm doing is triggering it.

EDIT: Just sent an email to [email protected], will post results as soon as I get them.

Same thing here.

Browsing speed is absymal while I'm downloading a torrent, which goes at ~100kb/s, also wothless.

wowza 8ta whats going on your service is almost non existent on my galaxy tab switches from E.. to 3G to +H every second . Plus pages are taking AGES to load!

Following up on my last post - figured out how to stop being put onto EDGE, but since last week it's been the only thing I've been able to get signal to. Waiting on Telkom to send a technician out so hopefully I'll get it back soon as my 8ta package is completely unusable as it is right now.

Tech just left. 8ta supposedly made use of MTN roaming up until the end of December and then discontinued it as it was too costly, which is why I'm no longer getting a signal (despite being on their coverage map) - I asked why they decided to drop the customers who depended on roaming without an alternative and apparently they do provide signal boosters to some, though I'm likely ineligible as the signal I'm getting is borderline non-existent. He also said that there are plans to build additional towers to cover this area but couldn't tell me if they were weeks or months off.

Tough luck, basically. To his credit, the technician was trying his best to help and said he'd submit a report so I'll give it another week before I look into terminating the contract.

I wouldn't take it for granted, rather trust 8ta rep official reply here than depend on what technician say.

AFAIK, MTN roaming is active also in areas covered fully by 8ta transmitters. So I don't understand why roaming is turned off in your area.

I have an 'ok' down speed and a horrendous up speed but everything from web pages to torrents are taking forever to open and download.

I am mostly ok speedwise. I am not a racer...but my gosh..I have never experienced so many disconnects in my life. Vodacom and Cell C managed to stay connected much longer with a weaker signal. 8ta...like every 5 minutes or so it drops the connection.

The same. These networks disconnect more frequently when idle, very rare when transfering data. 8ta can stay idle for hours, some other time disconnects randomly during data transfer.

Its shocking to see how many people are having the same issues as me.
That is probably why they tie you into a 24 month contract which you can't get out of.
If they don't get back to me soon or cancel my contract I will definately go the carte blanche route to see if they can help me.

At this stage not sure. The have excellent prepaid deals.

Because many people are experiencing the same problem, I suspect it is not technical nature, but a billing system which cuts you off when is unable to follow with counting.
