I do not know what exactly they did at the tower, but whatever they did got things back on track.
It seems that the problem is being fixed on a faultfinding basis (ie. if someone complains they fix the tower/exchange problems). Not the best way but certainly the most logical way.

I was surprised at the friendlyness of the technicians and their 'clued-up-ness' regarding the system & network.
Showing them the results of Speedtest.net, Pingtest.net and tracert prove you're not a whiner and also make it easier for them to check for problems on their side.

Just a word of warning - get the Midnight Surfer option (and another HDD), it's an extra 100 for another 10Gb (used after midnight). You will need it when the speed issue is sorted in your area - mildly active torrents download at 600kbps! :twisted: You can download a high quality movie in the time it takes to eat dinner!

Would really like to know if anybody had any success with 8ta help? My case # 126106 have been active since the beginning of November without any resolution to the bandwidth problems.

Please submit your story to Carte Blance at www.carteblanche.co.za. These guys need to be exposed for what they are and we really need to warn the public not to subscribe to 8ta.
 
So after an optimistic start (they called me to arrange testing at my house) I am saddened to report that Telkom's service ethics are shining through. After scheduling two appointments with the technician both of which resulted in him not arriving I am back to square one. Sorry there is no better news - will let you know if anything improves or they respond to any of my emails.....
 
I think our only option will be to go to the CPA with this. These speeds are worse than 384.

That or "class action lawsuit" (this doesn't exist in SA but you can have a company go after a group on your behalf, this can also be done in a group).

Basically everyone @ my work place report the same thing: Pathetic speeds.

Pathetic speeds in Kosmosdal

For the last 6 months I have been having really pathetic speeds. I have never achieved > 1Mbps over the last two months. At my place of work I am getting > 4Mbps

Area is Kosmosdal, Centurion.:mad:
 
Last night while playing with my clan on BF3, at around 10 pm. Bam crap pings and speed in P.E again. I have heard that they do changes and test to the network. This is only meant to happen after 1AM. Every time it gets to around 10pm 8ta really becomes crap. How is one meant to play in Telkoms Gaming league if the networks are so unreliable. @ 8ta If you have do to tests the do them either after 1am or while people are at work during the week. Most people use it in the evening.
 
Very happy with my 8ta so far but the last few days when I'm online for a few minutes (20) then get I get switched over to EDGE and I can't do anything. I have to disconnect and then reconnect after 5 minutes then I have have good speed again for like 20 minutes then the same thing happen. Anyone else experiencing the same. This happened on Sunday as well.

Been happening to me for about 2 months now...
 
I have had my 8ta contract for about 4 months now and at the beginning, my speeds weren't that bad. When I play BF3 online, I constantly get disconnected. I have complained 5 times at 8ta in about a week and eventually got someone to investigate. He first took my SIM and used it on his laptop and got a download speed of over 2mbps (you need less than 2mbps to qualify for the 3G Booster). I told him that he should test my connection from my PC and then I got 1.65mbps download and 0.30 upload speeds with 106ping. After being a bit relieved that I now qualify for the 3G Booster, he tested the speeds again with the Booster connected and to my astonishment got 4.01 download, 1.80 upload and 84ping. This was short-lived as the connection would still vary every 5mins. My connection would be dropped and no issues were solved although I now have the 3G Booster.

Is there any way I could increase my connection speed and strength? I have a Huawei E173 connected to the 3G Booster (don't know the make or model). I live in PTA-East area in Garsfontein close to the High-school.
