8ta speeds

I'm glad to report back!

Thanks 8ta seems like tonight my speeds are way better!

Just downloaded the ios5 update for my ipad and it flew! that promted me to do a speed test!

Test conducted on Wed Nov 09 2011 21:00:33 GMT+0200 (South Africa Standard Time)

Download Speed: 6062 kbps (757.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 660 kbps (82.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 70 ms

So it does look like telkom are taking service seriously! I will now sign up for the midnight surfer as well.

Thanks again!
Hi
Thank you for the positive feedback.

Yes thats the issue with directional antennas, the margin in which you can move is so small. But within that lies the benefit also, the radio waves are focused on one point so all the energy is directed at a single spot, so that translates into higher gains if you point it in the right direction!

As a tip might i recommend you use MDMA (search the forums for it) on your pc. plug in the modem use mdma to get better readings of signal strength. Then slowly ( remember the margins are quite small) move your antenna in a direction, wait a few seconds then move a couple of degrees further. You might have had a great spot but because of the delay in the refresh of the web interface you could have missed it. Then once you are happy, fix the antenna in that spot do a final test and tweak a bit. then remove the modem from your pc and plug it back into the router, et voilas!

Hope it helps!

MDMA hmmmmm cops are gonna come get u :P
awesome gonna sell of my iburst modem then buy this
shot dude

Thank you MR 8ta rep !!!!!! last night at abotu 9 seemed to eb perfect again and with that i can share this info when i was in EL last week i was getting 7Mbs download speeds :)

I must say, I just got my sim activated today. Just managed to test speeds now. About 50ms pin with around 4mbps download and over 3 mbps upload. Very snappy. Pages load faster than on CellC. Hope they keep the service consistent. Happy chappy for now :)

Hi Mr. 8ta rep, thanks for your contribution in getting this sorted for us! So far its all good, will keep you updated if there are any problems. Just an idea, maybe 8ta should get a Network Status page or something similar. Where you can keep customers updated about network issues and or maintenance progress. I think what made most people angry was the complete silence, no one knew where we stood in the last week, if you guys are working on it or anything at all. I think peeps just want to know their concerns are being looked into, it will make for a slightly more forgiving customer base and less embarrassment for you guys.

Thanks again, your network is running great again. Keep it up!

Happiness!

One thing I must admit.....when 8ta is working, it's fantastic to use.

Been using the Vodacom R499 special when 8ta went on a go-slow & it was so much slower to use.

Youtube on Vodacom is just a pain, cos of the constant buffering, but on 8ta it's smooth and fast.

I live in Centurion, my speeds are super fast at the moment :D, probably the first time I've had speeds exceeding 10mbps.

Glad some people feel 8ta is doing their job...

E-mailed and PM'ed the 8ta rep (who still fears posting on my thread) and received no proper reply other than asking my MyBB alias (which I have sent).

I have had 1 good download session with proper speeds in the last 2 months!

To give you an idea what I have to "play" with:

Hi
We are investigating your query.
Thank you

I've just recently gotten on the 8ta bandwagon, and so far it has been a mixed result.
I'm using a B970 router (originally a vodafone router, but there is no device locking in SA so it works.) with the 8ta sim card, And a speed test from where I stay in durban to umhlanga looks like this:

to johannesburg:

and to capetown:

Definitely not what I expected when I picked it up (I went with 8ta for the lower latency mostly, but the speeds have been less than amazing)

If it doesn't improve, I think this will end up being a once off pre-paid purchase =/

So I had issues for a few days where my connection switched over to Edge after 20 min of online time. I logged a call on the site and it looks like it's stable again. BUT... my dl speed went from 600kbs -750kbs to 25kbs - 50kbs.
