A Death Thread

Make sure when you get the death certificate the details are correct, sitting now with an issue to get an amended death certificate from home affairs as it listed my grandmother as married and she was a widow. Been 3 months and no luck as yet, estate cant be finalized due to that small error.

I created a "death file"(with index) where everything is filed in a logical and easy-to-understand way.
Copy of file at work and home.
you and me both.
had to blank out so much - it is now an exersize in futility to post - but may provide some pointers for others

a little nugget given to me by the law firm dealing with my father's estate.

create a few acknowledgements of debt - properly witnessed and notarised.
these can come in very handy in protecting the estate & its beneficiaries.

an example - a few ppl here have had to take care of a gravely ill parent.
having 24hr carers will run you at least R1500 per day.
assume an 8month period - the estate will owe you close to R400k as primary caregiver.

my mother had one drawn up in my favour - she was in and out of hospital for a 3 yr period.
we did have 24 hr care, but i was listed as primary - that "debt" came up to R1.6m.

obviously explicit trust is needed - a warring family cannot pull this off
