ABSA vs. FNB

Yeah its ridiculous. I'm guessing when you get to the Private Banking level though the interest rate isn't that important, how many of those people don't pay off their cards every month?

Yeah... probably one of the reasons you get a low interest rate.

Actually I only wear clothes I made myself from hemp that I grew myself at the compound where I live.

Well you *should* get one, if you're at that level you're usually a lower risk so the interest rate should also be lower.

Although - I've come to the conclusion that banks like ABSA call it "Private Banking", which is equivelant to "Platinum or even Gold Banking" at FNB.

The ABSA Private Bankers have absolutely no authority to do anything, whereas at FNB, the Platinum (or Premier) bankers can make calls on your account.

...only cause they don't shave....

We are a very liberal and modern cult in that way. Our one little extravagance is Gillette Venus products. Smooth legs are very important if people are jumping and skipping naked in the meadows at sunrise.

Err .. I'll stop this nonsense now.

I really have only one mission in life at this stage and that is to let people actually look at their bank statements and make informed choices. I really think most people are not aware of the details behind the products they buy from all financial services companies.

I am all for buying branded clothing, getting branded credit cards etc. as long as you don't have the Market for Lemons - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Market_for_lemons.

Don't joke, thats where my mother got all of my cloths when I was a kid... she was proud that she could get all my years clothes for about R5. :( AND my brother got EXACTLY the same.

Same here, now I can buy my own stuff, and I don't buy there.

Thats Private Banking, which apparently isn't for this thread :p

Nope with absa platinum u get access.

You also get the recognition that comes with having access to more than 500 VIP airports in more than 275 cities across the world - through membership of Priority Pass™, the world’s largest independent VIP airport lounge programme, when you take up a MasterCard Platinum Cheque card and your salary is deposited into your Platinum Package account. This entitles you to six FREE visits to airport lounges per annum (calculable as 12 consecutive months from date of issue)*.

I wonder if the same six visit restriction applies to their private card holders.

Not that I use a bank very much (being a student and all) but I used to use Standard Bank. Couple of months ago I wanted to start using internet banking, anyway Standard Bank gave me endless trouble etc.

So I decided to go over to First National Bank and applied for a student account etc. With my account I pay R14 per a month, it includes all my internet banking, cellphone banking and using an atm charges. Found no other bank that can better that.

Very good :D

Ppl should be more aware of banking costs.

I've been singing FNB's praises for the last couple of years. If there was a local FNB branch in my small town I would move all my accounts to them in an instant. As it is, I have a business cheque account with them for the last 4 years and their service is excellent. I pay less than half the amount I pay for an ABSA cheque account and get all the extras for free.

I've recently noticed that ABSA seem to have changed their banking fees, or at least how it's deducted from your account. There's now a monthly CC fee (used to be deducted once a year) and with the cheque account it seems as if you are paying the minimum monthly fee + any actual fees incurred. In the last month my fees on the cheque account jumped from R50 p/m to more than R80 p/m (I only use it for 2 debit orders, and the occasional cash deposit).

If you have debit orders on a credit card you pay no debit order charges;).
