All these ******* expat South Africans go to great lengths to say what is wrong with SA but what are they doing to improve anything, not a goddam thing

What do you propose I do to tangibly improve things? If a ship is taking on 50 liters of water a second and all I've got is a spoon to bail water then you can be damn sure I won't be there trying to improve the situation with my bloody spoon. I'll be spending my time looking for something floaty & not leaky.

You all have it in you to do at least something similar than what this person did. If people who come here with nothing but the clothes on there back can make a meaningful contribution there really is no excuse for us.

If you guys aare really so unhappy with the world you are in, do something about. If the quality of education is lacking in this country then educate people in the way you see fit. Start a school, start a training college, teach people PHP or CSS or HTML

If you have a job, you must then surely have some sort of skill, teach it to someone

And then what? Despite his massive achievements he'll still feel all the negative effects of well everything you see when you read the news.

I can be a model citizen - join community watch, donate money and time to good causes, pay a mega tax bill, vote, be active in the community...and then at the end of the day still get fk'd over by zuma/crime/eskom/AA/corruption etc.

Noble sentiments but what you seem to be failing to grasp is that neither the FeesMustFall people nor the govt give a flying f^%k about your definition of change. They want SA to conform to their vision. They do not aspire to any level of western societal norms except BMW's, Armani suits and Johnny Walker Black Label. Attempting to change things is like pissing against the rain. You'd be far better off investing in a society that values and appreciates your efforts.

When I left SA 10 years ago I was surprised at the vitriol I met. Most friends were sympathetic but a few were really vicious. The vicious people were those who'd never stepped outside SA and couldn't join the dots WRT the direction the govt was taking and the rest of Africas history.

It wasn't pleasant.

I lived in NZ for 5 years and loved the country. I left for professional reasons but I have a deep love for that country (sadly my love for SA is kaput). It ain't perfect and I think Saffies who slag off NZ from a point of ignorance are just jealous of that countries success.

I didn't live in an upperclass neighbourhood so my choice was a public school with a gangsterism problem or an expensive private school. The public school education my kid is getting here is better than the private school education he was getting in SA.

I tried being an upstanding, law abiding, tax paying citizen and contributing positively to build the economy. I got sick of all the criminals looting, burning, stealing and murdering.

I remember a video during the RhodesMustFall protests where a young girl was scrubbing a statue with a bucket and brush while a bunch of orcs were standing over her throwing mud and Christ knows what else at her and the statue while jeering and insulting her. That is a perfect microcosm of what is wrong with the country.

These days I choose to pay taxes in a country where my efforts do not go to waste.

I love south africa, i love being south african. I would just like south africa to be the best version of itself. Without people that believe in it, it can never be the best version of itself.

Yes Zuma made us forget that ever since 1994 that was SA until he came along.
