Hi all,

I have Dropbox installed on my work PC, and wanted to know if it is secure in the sense if someone types \\MyPCName\C$, would they be able to browse my Dropbox folders? Dropbox by default sits in C:\Users\MyPCLogin, so if someone connected with the Admin username and password, could they view all my Dropbox content?

A guy in our Dept is known for snooping and I have some personal stuff in Dropbox not work related and wanted to know if my files could be accessed in this way?

Lovely. Better uninstall then.

Thanks for the info. Will create another Dropbox account for work only, keep them separate from now on...

just remove the AD permissions from the folder. ensure your login is the only one listed.
You could even add the local admins & domain admins and put the access to denied.

he would have to take ownership of the folder to see the properties and then you will know that he has done so.

I would be very careful with this - does you employer allow personal cloud storage on a work PC? If not I'd remove your personal content immediately (at minimum the Dropbox portion).

Re the access, yes they can. I would also not start messing around with folder permissions on a work PC, locking out the admins, etc - check your company/IT policies first to see if you're breaching any of them - just saying, as it's probably not a pleasant experience being escorted off the work premises.

No need for another account. Just change dropbox settings and use selective sync to exclude your personal stuff on work pc.
