accident with no insurance help

but she just took out insurance cos she said she just got the car this week or last so if she is gna claim it would be like 2/3 months so what if i get insurance and when she claims for it my insurance would then cover....cos i doubt she made a police report or anything like that

As far as I know, there's no waiting period before you can claim on insurance. You're normally insured from the moment you complete the paperwork (or phone call). The only exception I've encountered is not being insured for theft or hijacking until the car has been inspected so she should be covered even if she just got insurance.

You cannot get insurance after the fact. Period. In any event, you will need to disclose this accident to your new insurer.

Imagine if you could... no one would have insurance until they have an accident :p

Dude, a car is insured from the day you take the insurance is taken out, you usually get a letter stating its covered.

In order for her to claim she needs to report the accident to the police - she needs a case number - that needs to be done within 24 (or 48 cant remember) hours from the time of the accident. Her insurance will want this case number.

Your insurance would not cover anything done to the car before your insurance is approved. To do something like you suggesting would constitute insurance fraud, and secondly i dont think you will get away with it, insurance companies are very clever and do their best not to pay out unless they really have to.

You going about this the wrong way mate - you were not insured, you have to pay - you not going to find a way to get out of it.

i dont mind paying and i guess its my fault cos back smash is my fault ....i did not intend on doing it ...but it happens ...and it is small damage ....i just cant face the fact paying some crazy costs where as it would cost nothing to fix

its a 2002 -04 clio ....im sure the bumper wont be that expensive cos there is no damage on the bumper like major ...and its the rear bumper ....no lights or anything involved

Who you trying to convince? Us, or yourself? :)

If you know a good panel beater, who wont rip you off, ask the nice lady to take her car to your guy, best you can do. As other guys have stated, she is not obliged to do so.

Well, I hope the OP does get nailed by her insurance. I am sick and tired of people driving without insurance, getting involved in accidents and then shrug their shoulders. If you cannot afford insurance, you shouldn't own a car.

i tried my luck in telling her about premiums rising ...so maybe hopefully she would not claim and rather settle privately

+1.... I've had someone cost me a fortune because they didn't have insurance... I have zero sympathy for those without insurance, the government really should make 3rd party compulsory.

well FYI this my 1st incident in like 4 years of legal driving ...so i would say im a safe driver and the accident was as small as u would get ...i would agree on you if i jumped a robot on i was speeding and caused a major accident

no one was hurt so take it easy

Sorry to the OP but I agree with MightyQuin 100%. If you can't afford your insurance, you can't afford to be driving around. Imagine if that was a Ferrari in front of you? You would be instantly insolvent.

Its called an accident for a reason - not because you do it on purpose.

If you drove into a 1.2mil Mercedes - do you really think you'll be able to afford the repair?

It's about probabilities. Yes being a safe driver reduces those probabilities but it is probable that you will still have an accident. It does not remove that probability altogether.

dude they are called accidents for a reason, you don't have to be speeding, driving like an animal to write off someones R600k car.

i never had insurance before so thats the costs they were giving me ...brokers were giving me like 800

age? on what car was that? rough value of car?

i understand there is a probibility of this happening and well its not that i dont want insurance ...i cannot afford the payments ....and i dont have a car for luxury ...its something i need ....

You were driving too close and didn't give yourself sufficient space to stop safely.... therefore you are NOT a safe driver, regardless of whether this is your first incident or not.

I've also had someone without insurance cost me a small bloody fortune in excess....
It should be bloody illegal to drive on our roads without at the VERY least 3rd party insurance.
