accident with no insurance help

im 24 ....golf 1.4i ....value is 50000

Insurances hate people under 25. I had a minor accident, cause of bad weather (hail and heavy rain) and it was downhill which made breaks fail and they charged me R5000 for being under 25 excluding the excess cost.

well just to give you an idea my premium would be around R250 - R300 as i know my % that my insurance works on. however obviously dependent on your profile.

and thats why i say ...i never had insurance b4 and my profile

high premiums cos they believe that we are all race drivers

Few people actually knows what their cars stopping distance is. It way more than you think.
Try this today on a open road with no traffic. Go 60km, then stop dead. see how long your car takes to stop. Now do it at 80km/h.
That gap you normally keep, is to small for you to stop dead in the event of something happening.

You were driving too close and didn't give yourself sufficient space to stop safely.... therefore you are NOT a safe driver, regardless of whether this is your first incident or not.

I've also had someone without insurance cost me a small bloody fortune in excess....
It should be bloody illegal to drive on our roads without at the VERY least 3rd party insurance.

i always give my self distance to stop ....but the cars in front came to a dead stop .. well ya

so they never gave a warning break light before they stopped dead to give you time to break or A Lights? if not they are terrible drivers they should check and warn the drivers behind them if something is obstructing or slowing down the traffic.

there was a brake light ...but my car didnt stop in time ....cos i just bumped her ....i cannot upload pics and if you could see the small damage you would see i tried stoppign and the car just slid and touched

Excuses, excuses, bla bla bla...cry me a river. Get insurance or get off the road. It is people like you that contribute to the high excesses and premiums of short term insurance.

well how do you expect to get insurance history if you never get insurance :\

do you want a contact to call for a quote or you want to keep complaining?

How far behind were you and the speed? do you have abs brakes or air brakes? maybe you should have your brakes checked and tyres to be sure if they working alright.

When I had my accident I found my front left tyre tread was a bit flat so could have caused my accident so I changed the tyres asap plus brakes while having the car serviced.

Well, I hope the OP does get nailed by her insurance. I am sick and tired of people driving without insurance, getting involved in accidents and then shrug their shoulders. If you cannot afford insurance, you shouldn't own a car.

This is a bit harsh. The reason someone pays insurance is to protect their "investment" Which is why you are paying insurance. Whether or not the other party has insurance your investment is protected. Sure you might have an excess if you so choose but that is you protecting your "investment".

Even if 100 people drive into your car it is covered, if they don't have insurance it's not your problem. I fail to see how him not having insurance costs you money? Your insurance will reclaim the damages from him directly if he doesn't have insurance and pay you back the excess you had to pay. So you lose nothing

i managed to call someone now and get 3rd party quotes ...but i guess if it not gna work im gna wait a while and later get my ar insured cos im stressed atm

ok mr perfect

I'm pretty sure his time will come where he needs to get to work and can't afford an insurance premium. Don't give him any thought. You are in a little trouble for not having insurance to cover this small accident, but it's not the end of the world. She will have her car repaired and you will have a little more debt. So what, the world goes on.

And because you're stressed, your attention won't be on the road and you are more likely to make another accident?

Take the first quote, man, and get insurance. You can change it again. Don't fool yourself.

Even I take offence to that. We should have a law in South Africa like in the US, where you may not be allowed to drive a vehicle that has no insurance. You are ignorant and putting others at risk with your disregard for others on the road. Lucky you, you just had a small incident. What if you were the "other person" and somebody, say, just like you, runs into your car and writes it off completely? Open your eyes!

Haha. Mybb, no sympathy...just reality checks ;)

Agreed though. I have a friend who thought he's a smart ou, never had insurance and swore he would never buy it. He would laugh at us for paying R700 or so a month.

Well, to cut a long story short, he had an accident. Over 30k to repair the other persons car. Luckily his was just under 10k. He's fortunate enough that his dad could give him a loan with no interest to help him pay up but what an absolute schlep. R40k and nothing to show for it.

He now has insurance.

And I also agree. It should be Law that before you purchase a car, you need insurance. Isn't it like that in the US of A?
