Ok so now i was all for going to buy the Acer Aspire 5738PG (touchscreen) as it is on special at the moment when I happened upon the mecer advert in the paper and then googled and found this site with a thread on Mecer Xpression 2010 - W765CU ...

Which one would you suggest is the better option? I know the Acer has 4GB RAM and a 500GB hard drive but am not sure if I can upgrade it as much as I can the Mecer i5 which is 320GB (upgradeable to 500GB) and 2GB Ram (upgradeable to 4GB) and upgradeable overall to i7.

I'm a Graphic Designer and my budget doesnt allow for a mac before any of you suggest I look in that direction!

Please ... your input is and will be greatly appreciated as I'm looking to purchase a laptop yesterday :D

Mecer - locally produced and not very good quality.
Acer, well it's Acer.

I'm a Toshiba fan myself, but if I had to choose I'd go with the Acer. Out of experience I've had better service from Acer laptops that Mecer.

Cheerz!

Thanks a mill ... it seems like everyone has the same opinion. It really looks like a nice machine ... but then I've been working on a 1GB RAM 80GB HD for 3 years now ... battery has been broken since month 3 (and they had stopped making that battery) ... So pretty much a carboard box with memory would go down well now ;) ha ha ...

The only thing i'm worried about is the shiny screen but then as free-spirited as I am ... I doubt i'll be working out in the trees anytime soon so it shouldn't pose too much of an issue ;)

I'm currently using this:

Toshiba A200-30C Link

Running Windows 7 Professional, and use it quite extensively for work as well as my photography (Photoshop CS5, HDR's, etc). No problems.

And I am VERY happy with it. It's my 3rd Toshiba, seeing as I upgrade every 2 years. Almost getting to that time again now as it happens.

Cheerz!

Aaaaaaah yes ... then we need the laptop for basically the same purpose as I'm running CS4 and hopefully CS5 one of these days. That looks like a good machine too!

Yeah. I could do with some more processing power, but for now it's really not bad. Plus, I just liked the look of the Toshiba, all in black. Was worried about wear on the shiny black finish, but as yet I can't see ANY wear. And I've had it for more than a year now, and it sees at least 6-7 hours use per day.

Cheerz!

I tend to dissagree MECER is far better then the Proline junk you get and well priced.

+1

Mecer is a great brand (we sell plenty), I would choose that over an Acer any day (we don't sell as many).
Then again, I'm a big fan of Toshiba! (also sell plenty)

My two cents worth, use it or don't use it.

what makes Toshiba more worthit is the Perfection Promise it has, for example if your laptop gets stolen your covered, if you break it your covered etc.

And ACER,HP and Dell Laughable in this country. Buy a product that your dealer can give support on, otherwise your in for a treat.
