Ads on main page

Hi there

IN another discussion the point was raised that the ads on the front page (or any page for that matter) sometimes do not display when using a Vodacom 3G connection. More here: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=120552

The ads initially display fine for me, but then after a few page views it disappears.

Do you guys experience the same? Any feedback will be great.

Could be DNS or APN related.

If anyone sees this, please see if you can do a DNS nslookup test to the URL that fails and also note your area and APN.

I have seen these on occasion. Is the ad server hostname always predictable (i.e. what would you like us to nslookup for)?

No idea, looks like the ad is served from another site?
The image looks like it's being served from serv.mybroadband.co.za.
When I saw the problem rpm posted, I was wondering if you (as our primary DNS victim) are seeing these as well.
I don't think it's DNS, the error dablakmark8 see is:
Connection Interrupted
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
Maybe VC's transparent proxy giving up too soon?

I am seeing broken adds today in the forums and main page. nslookup of serv.mybroadband.co.za resolves to 41.204.200.72. Currently on unrestricted apn, ppdb.
IP: 41.192.134.165

Seeing broken ads again this evening. Community fund amount is also not showing.

I am still seeing broken ads when connecting from home on Vodacom. PPDBs Internet APN. Today it was back with a vengeance with "Connection Interrupted" errors to boot. Clicking retry generally only produced the same error again. It also looks like the pages are not loading completely (missing style sheets?).

I then cleared my cache and restarted FireFox 3.0 and tried again, same issues. I then started IE 7.0 (Vista) and all the ads are loading correctly. I then disabled AdBlockPlus in FF as well (I have already whitelisted mbb), no change.

While at work using FF the ads always load. So it seems to be a Vodacom/FF combo.

I had to look for them, but I do get the banner ads at the top of forum pages.
Using Windows XP SP3 + Firefox 3, Ubuntu 8.04 + Firefox 3 on Vodacom HSDPA, PPDB, internet APN.

Maybe it's a Vista funny?

So far the common factors are: Vodacom HSDPA, Vista & FireFox. From work the exact same setup over IS BADSL works perfectly (sitting behind a squid proxy).

Edit: unrestricted or internet APN makes no difference

I use the ABP(Ad Blocker Plus) Plugin for Firefox 3, which eliminates all ads in the subscription list. Thus the MyBroadband Forum page displays absolutely no ads, which i prefer.

I'll check from home but IIRC it always used to work for me... out of interest, what is used to serve the ads?

I also prefer not to see ads, but I have whitelisted MBB in ABP in order to assist the community fund :)

Nevermind :) I see what's being used to serve the ads now.

Will give it a test a little later.
