ADSL data at R14 per GB

This sounds great! All you guys should go for it! Be sure to post a review as soon as possible.

A few questions... what speed does the 3G run at? And do we have to get a new Sim Card? Do we have to load new software? And coverage? Where do they cover?

For some reason I have never really "got" GConnect and what the hell they actually offer. I always thought there were similar to the iBurst wireless providor. The bottom line is, can I use an ADSL account from them on my ADSL modem?

isnt gconnect the company with the time out on idle connections- you have to log in every 3 minutes or whatever

I don't believe any ISP would have such an inflexible session idle timeout. Otherwise very happy to see this new pricing.

Can we get an indication of just how "Limited" this offer is? Not keen to switch if it's going to be yanked off the market in the next month or two.

Guys Ive been with Gconnect for a while now. They have the lowest latency and the fastest speed compared to telkom and IS. You get max speed on your line 24/7 on p2p and VPN. Its pure awesomeness!!!!

I checked through my emails and yes this is the company that had/has the 300 second time out....

If you were going to use this as your main connection you need to have something like your Twitter or email client or would need to install some kind of keep-alive software to send a few snippets of traffic over the network every few minutes to keep the login current.

when I inquired about this, I received the following reply

Unfortunately we cannot disable that feature, that is for the safety for some users

In order for them to not lose their funds on the account.

When the sim cards are cheaper I will join, i'm not prepared to pay R150 a year for a cheap piece of plastic you can buy on other networks for a few rand. The only reason I would change is because of the data rollover on the normal package.

Damn I already have afrihost for this month.
Deffo next month I'll trial G-connect.

I can't wait! :D

Oh, do you need to buy a special sim for this?
I thought you can use a username and passwod setting on the router?

Wow this is pretty freaking awesome pricing, might just dump the 499 uncapped deal and upgrade to 4mb for this

You can use any Vodacom sim card. You can have it provisioned (activated) on the g-connect site. I wanted to use it on my phone for cheap browsing, Google Maps, always on Fring, etc. But you still have the same problem that you first have to login on their site before you can browse anywhere else. Which means apps like Fring, Google Maps, etc don't work. It really sucks, I hate paying R2 / MB just to download a couple of megs a month. It's not enough to get a bundle from Vodacom, but it keeps me from using my smartphone as it should be used.

"300 second time out"... oh dear

I don't want to have to run keep alive software. Had enough of that with Neotel. On ADSL though? No thanks...

Jeez people, read the article and their website.

To use the adsl data, just put the adsl username/password given into your existing router.
To use the 3G data, just activate your existing vodacom sim with them. Or order a pre-activated physical sim for R150
