ADSL data at R14 per GB

They were so close for me closing my afrihost account and signing up, but 300 second time out would drive me mad and it is a limited offer? Sods law says you jump ship and the offer ends a couple of months down the line and then afrihost stops there offer leaving you in the ****.

On ADSL there is no such timeout. The session eventually timesout but just keep the connection manager open and the session won't timeout. I have closed my connection manager and still used the same session for a full week after that without any problems - I had to restart my PC so that's the longest I have tested before.

You need a Vodacom contract sim if you want to provision it on GConnect.
 
I really only want it for adsl so this will not time out? For sure?

Ah.. thanks for that. Can I not just let the router handle the connection? Do I need to have software installed and running all the time to keep the connection open?

It will time out at some stage, but if you keep your connection manager open it won't time out. Give the guys at the helpdesk as call, they will explain it in good detail to you. They've got a 24/7 helpdesk running.

You'll have to use the connection manager - It's way easier than a landing page!

But if you only use it for ADSL the connection manager isn't such a big problem. If it closes the connection/session stays open for quite some time. When it does eventually ends (the session), you just connect again using the connection manager and problem solved.
 
Ahh, so this isn't a new baseline price... it's possibly going to end soon. Hmmm... tempted, but i'm sick of swapping providers. I'll wait for this one to become permanent before thinking about signing up. Thanks for the info peeps.
 
this connection manager. is there a linux client?
 
and only one sign in so you cannot work at home if your office is logged in!!
 
So you have to use this connection manager therefor only one person in the office can connect at a time? This will never work, afrihost you live again. I need a router to do the logging in and at least 2 connections, one for home and one for the office.
 
This is only valuable as a blended access medium product, If you do math on just the 3G portion @ 35c - It is not competitive at all - in fact it's twice as expensive as Vodacom.
R389 = roughly 1Gig with G-Connect.

If the offering was weighted slightly better more towards the 3G side things (Possible alternative product offering?) I would def be interested, but these are just my needs :)

As soon as a session has been registered, every device on the network can connect to the internet, you just need one device that creates the session. They explain it in a FAQ section on their website.

After reading through the comments i decided to stick with my "over priced providers"

1. I dont need keep alive software (or what ever you want to call it)
2. Their offer is not limited

G-Connect was so close to getting my moola. I mean 27GB for R389 = WIN!!! (not a win we are all waiting for, but a win none-the-less). G-Connect, if you get rid of those two points and offer a DSL account with out any additional requirements, then i will be sold, until then keep trying, you are on teh correct path!!!
