I'm considering switching my ISP from MWEB to the either Axxess, Afrihost or Vox. But i duno who to sign up with. They all have good deals. Based on the survey rankings of the best ADSL ISP's for 2015 which i seen on this webiste Axxess appears to be the best.

But what i wana know is if there's anyone on these forums that uses Axxess, Afrihost or Vox and what their experience has been like with these ISP's.

I'm looking to sign up for the uncapped 4 mbps, but based on some of the reading i've done on above ISP's websites, capped internet that they provide is unshaped. I have uncapped with MWEB and when they start throttling the line it's ridiculously frustrating!

That's another dilemma i have, do i go capped or uncapped? I buy a lot of games from steam and from PSN so i need a large cap to download and update these games.

I'm with Afrihost and YES they have had their issues, just like any other ISP out there. But I'm very happy with them and have been for nearly 5 years, their new network and added benefits are awesome. You should try them out and see for you self, If you need to read up on them see below thread..As for gaming sadly with ASSIA enabled on telkoms network, everybody has high ping, packet loss, and line drops, people are quick to blame the ISP who manages their line, accept if you are a telkom ISP customer, then its another story :P...And I would recommend afrihost's capped packages for gaming and streaming, if you are a heavy downloader, then yes take the uncapped route.

I recently just joined Afrihost. They seem stable so far, but I can let you know in a couple weeks i you ain't in a rush to make a decision?

Yeah cool. I can use my mobile data for a while I don't mind the wait. What line speed did you sign up for?

If you put in on a scheduler, Afrihost capped is the way to go. Just let your PC download it overnight (there is a scheduler, Steam > settings > downloads).
This was my usage for the month as of yesterday:

I have done 400GB night data last November, so no need to worry about steam downloads. Currently paying R668 for the 150GB@10Mbps bundle.
Afrihost also introduced one month roll-over now.

I've been with MWeb for years, last to or so also on a 4 MB uncapped package. I however had a ISP account with Afrihost as well for the last few months, a 50 GB capped account. I'm now in the process of canceling my MWeb, 30 day notice period will be next month, then I'm moving my ADSL line back to Telkom and will continue using Afrihost as my ISP. I'll keep with a capped account, will still see if I will need 100 GB or 200 GB per month, but yes the free night time data makes it great. I'll also bump my ADSL line up to a 8 or 10 MB.

4Mbps Standard? I suggest upgrading to a better uncapped account, or going MWEB capped - http://www.mweb.co.za/internet-connection/adsl/view-all-adsl-packages.aspx#capped-adsl.

I have the 2 mbps premium line with mweb. I'm changing from mweb because my experience with them has not been great. That is why I'm considering other ISPS.

In terms of what?
I get throttled even though I haven't even reached my soft cap or even come near it and all they say when you call them is that they are unsure why I'm being throttled.

Honestly I'm not saying that mweb is a bad isp it's just that my experience and one of my friends recently have been having this problem of being throttled for no reason, at some point you get tired of it.

Can you explain how you experience the throttling?

Here are the throttle limits.

When browsing, takes forever to load the website and doesn't load completely, some pics don't even load. Whilst watching videos on YouTube, it's ridiculously slow to load. Downloading study material from Unisa takes forever, even though the files on average are about 10mb.

The last time I reached the soft cap of 200gb is probably last year May/June.

Sounds like something amiss on your end as neither MWEB uncapped or capped work like this. What steps have you taken to test? Are you using automatic DNS settings or have you assigned ones?

Why don't you sign up for trial account from one of the other service providers, see if the issues persist.
Afrihost
Axxess
CrystalWeb
Webafrica (choose the 1GB option)

They are all 1GB free capped accounts.

Personally I am on the Afrihost 150GB, 10Mbps bundle for R668. Uncapped midnight data and one month roll-over.

You can also do some quick tests on your current line, run a tracert to mybroadband.co.za
If you can access your router, would you be kind enough to post line stats?

When you say amiss on my end, what do you mean? The line? The modem?

Automatic DNS, I think.

Telkom did a line test and there was an issue about a year and a half ago. But they and Mweb said it was fixed. Was fine for a while and then my Internet has had its good days and bad days until now it's all just bad. Even when I phoned mweb about a month ago asking them to sort it out. They said it was fine.

Will post the line stats in the coming days.

Unfortunately that's what's usually the case with the sort of issues you're having. They just aren't how good ISPs work for the vast majority of people, particularly how MWEB works, and this sort of experience is extremely obscure. I would try getting on the line with Telkom now, it's a good time to call. They can do some testing and reset your port, hopefully you speak to someone competent. We can take it from there and do testing, if the problem that seems to be intermittent, shows itself again.
