Hello all,

I am wondering whether you could help me. I don't understand ADSL very well but I have these connection problems I can't explain.

Firstly my ISP and HW:

DSL provider: Telkom
ISP: Afrihost
Modem: Huawei HG532f (Telkom)

I am experiencing connection blackouts where my router is saying Destination net unreachable. while pinging e.g. Google DNS (8.8.8.8).
I found out that DSL is disconnected while this is happening. Interesting thing is that whenever I pick up the phone (just pick up to hear the tone, don't have to call anywhere) the DSL will connect within 20s and stays connected for 10 minutes or sometimes up to few hours. I am using DSL splitter HWSP -168.
On the screenshot below I am pinging 8.8.8.8 and my router/ADSL modem and have open Modem's DSL status.

But the other thing is that sometimes the Destination net unreachable. happens only for a few seconds (every now and then) and then it is fine just "by itself" , sometimes I have just a few packet losses.

I come from Europe and I didn't experience such instability with ADSL 10 years ago, so I am a bit confused from this kind of problem :)

Thank you so much for your comments and ideas :)

Could be a number of things but usually its to do with noise from the phone line and your splitter not working correctly. Try borrow a working splitter from someone and see how it works. Your SNR values are quite safe and you shouldn't be having huge disconnecting issues unless your line is extremely inconsistent or your splitter is damaged.
Another option is to try a different ADSL modem as some handle inconsistency better depending on the chipset they use.

Plug out everything except the DSL. Check if the disconnect problem remains.

Hello guys thank you so much for replies.
I will try what you were suggested.
However (Murphy's law) from yesterday evening I have 0% Packet Loss and after 3 weeks my internet is running with no problem (so far). I don't understand that - I did nothing to fix it and now it seems to be working fine.
