Hi,

I have a problem with my Internet connection:
Whenever I receive a phone call my Internet disconnects - It shows on my Router with the DSL and Internet lights going off.

Has anyone had this problem?
How do I sort it out?

I'm with Telkom using an Openweb account

Thanks.

Get a POTS filter.

as TheGrove said, get a POTS filter. These cost around R40 from a Telkom store, but you ideally should have gotten one with your router.

You might have thought the POTS filter was a splitter, as it's generally a white box with a 1-to-2 connection split in it.

I have one of those splitters/filters, but this problem arose recently

Its not your pots filter its not your router its Telkom i had the same issue whenever the phone rings it re-syncs and re-syncs randomly. Log a fault and tell that that when your phone rings it DC'S also listen for noise on your line my voice line was very static apparently one of the cables were damged by my distribution cabinet and then it was fixed the line was stable and the voice line was crystal clear

It could be the filter, but it could also be faulty wiring between the exchange and your house.

To see which it is, try disconnecting all the telephones in your house from your land line, and then try calling your land line from your cellphone.

If your ADSL still disconnects then the issue is at the exchange or somewhere between the exchange and your house. If your ADSL doesn't disconnect then the issue probably with your filter.

If the problem is the exchange what can you do about it? I have a similar problem. And changing Pots filters didn't help

Lol, had the exact same issue about 5mins ago. However mine is corroded line i think. 2 technicians came last week, found no issues, line was then dead completely dead from thursday. Technician came friday did something at the box on the pole and said there is corrosion and they need to replace the entire line. However now whenever the phone rings the line drops. So could my issue also be POTS filter, as he also took that apart first?

Sounds like it could be a faulty card / Port at the exchange. You will have to phone Telkom to report it. I would however start with the basics first as described above.
