Please correct me if I'm wrong here, but people were taking bandwidth that they weren't entitled to, and are now complaining that they no longer get their "free" bandwidth?.
TBH, I am surprised Telkom let this carry on as long as they did.

Excellent! Cut off those buggers who feel the bandwidth available to all is theirs to milk. Let us all pay for what we use, fair and square.
go jump in a lake...
The issue is not their hard capping. The issue is their dishonesty.
Their relaxed capping had nothing to do with incompetence but was a stated policy of allowing users requiring more data to download the estimated unused data of other users who downloaded less than their allocated cap. Nobody lost (other than perhaps the ISP) as just as with most ISPs unused data on a monthly contract (not prepaid) is lost.
AFAIK they have not formally communicated anything to their customers iro these changes. On their website and on the usage notification emails they still state that once the formal cap is used up you are placed in the "shared pool".While I am not a Telkom fanboy, how were they dishonest in this? They've stated what they are going to do and are now implementing it. Where's the dishonesty.
That sounds like a lot more work than neccesary to provide a free, unwarranted service. I think I'll stick to my incompetance model![]()

- You get first-class ADSL's to resell to your clients at your own price.
- Cap from 0.5GIG to 30GIG.
- We also supply Local connectivity only via SAIX
- You can change passwords.
- You can add SAIX ADSL Plus to for your ADSL.
- NO need for any mail servers.
SAIX ONLY
Please excuse my confusion.
OK if you have a DO 3 -- 5Gb International (blended) 50Gb local
In normal use you start by useing up your 5Gb -- which is blended -- so if you go to a lot of local sites ( in your initial period of useage ) --
Poof -- your 5 Gb blended is finished and no more access to International sites
Now you start using your local 50 Gb ............
Is this the way it works
===========
With all the PT with trying to split / shape / route traffic why do we not just get given TWO accounts.
eg. ONE from TelkomSA.net ( International -- 5GB ) & another from SAIX ( local only -- 50 Gb)
I mean SAIX IS TELKOM -- why take out and pay for another account. Pay once get TWO accouts / logins
Set up your router with two "accounts" -- route all local traffic to the SAIX account -- route all other traffic to TelkomSA account.
Use wisely and download stuff from the local mirrors ( SAIX )
See here for where the "interesting" discussion takes place IS Labs
&
where someone is offering SAIX LOCAL ONLY accounts
Does this make any sense

On the Do3 package you get 30 GB local data for free not 50 GB. Best go read www.telkomsa.net
Who remembers the good ol days when Axxess would hook you up with 10,20 or even 30gig accounts![]()
