ADSL keeps disconnecting after line upgrade.

I recently upgraded my Telkom ADSL line from a 2mbps to 4mbps. But I have not upgraded my ISP account (still a 2mbps account). My internet connection keeps dropping every couple of minutes; the ADSL light on the router goes off (internet connection drops) and then flashes (syncing?) for a couple of seconds and then is solid for +-10 minutes (internet connection back up). Before the "upgrade" I never experienced these issues.

My question: Is this a Telkom line issue, i.e. nothing to do with my ISP or the fact that the line speed and ISP account are different (4mbps and 2mbps)?

Interestingly enough I am getting close to 4mbps on my 2mbps ISP account.

Your SNR is probably too low for 4meg, thats why its dropping, check the stats in your router.

There is something wrong with telkom line, you are not getting a stable sync.

Post your line stats, as Rickerster said.

Your stats may be too low for a stable 4Mbit connection - you may be too far away from the exchange or have some bad copper or something.

Heres is my table of comparisons
SNR:

6dB or below is very bad and will experience no synch or intermittent synch problems
7dB-10dB is fair but does not leave much room for variances in conditions
11dB-20dB is good with little or no sync problems
20dB-28dB is excellent
29dB or above is outstanding

Attenuation:

20dB and below is outstanding
20dB-30dB is excellent
30dB-40dB is very good
40dB-50dB is good
50dB-60dB is poor and may experience connectivity issues
60dB or above is bad and will experience connectivity issues

Your line is not stable, you will have to sync lower (SNR)

Its odd, My lines attenuation is 50 and SNR is like 15 when synced at 4096

Try and switch it from Adsl2+ to GMT might help

It will degrade the higher you sync. (The SNR)
