ADSL lifetime

Might stick with my current WISP untill RAIN has sorted their issues with 5G. Provided their pricing stays the same that is.

Dsl will work better, i got 40mps naked vdsl activated the other day.

Remember you need have landline installed all ready, they not installing new lines just activating current ones.
If I could have got 40Mb VDSL I wouldn't have bothered with fibre.

We had our 50/5Mb FTTH installed yesterday, cabling and connection. Yes it's faster than our previous 10Mb ADSL but the speed varies considerably.
Found the Capped Openserve ADSL Pro packages were the charm.

Maybe a capped fibre option, I don't need to download the internet.

Pinetown a rich neighborhood? (maybe I'm showing my privilege here...)

Also I think I was just lucky to have Fibre installed before the mafia started their $chitt.
Yup, Umbilo were set to get fibre from Vumatel's "Aerial" Fibre, and then nothing happened because of the "business forums".

So if you had DSL before and cancelled it, will they be able to reactivate it without sending a techie out?

I never had it as such. I applied for it, techie came out, got up on the pole and said there was an issue with the exchange which is not his department and he will send the request to them. then i waited over a month with no feedback or even acknowledgement that they received my e-mails. then i found out there was WISP avalable and cancelled with Telkom. The exchange issue might be fixed or it might not. Probably the latter knowing Telkom.

Techie has to go exchange to activate the port. They had to it with mine. Mine also had the line disconnected at the pole for some reason.

The increased speed is certainly attractive, as is the consistent connection. there is this pesky tree a couple of houses down which is a problem when the wind blows hard... I'm just concerned over the longevity of ADSL
