The last fourteen days my ADSL speed keeps dropping and had Telkom out here twice they do a check on my line and come to the house and cant find anything but it is becoming more frequent the last few days, and i keep on having to turn off my modem and wait a while and then turn it back on.last night i phoned 10210 and asked for a port reset helped for about four minutes then my speed dropped again. so turned off the rooter for 15 minutes then everything was fine until this afternoon.
My question is can it be my rooter because the Telkom technician said that the router i have, a AC750 TP-Link Archer-D2 is not a good rooter and it gives a lot of faults after about nine months of use and that my, and specifically TP-Link routers are no good and give a lot of problems and i should replace the router. My router is just over a year old.

Have you tried replacing you POTS filter?

TP link is a pretty good brand and never really had issues , not to say it can't be the router but doubtful , if you have a friend who can loan you one to test.

thanks for your reply and yes i did replace the POTS,i also was doubtful about the router and think it is more a case of of Telkom wanting me to change over to fibre, which i refuse to do until they can provide me with a month to month contract and not a two year contract.

Hold up
You have fibre in the area and not moving over?

What network provider, you know you do not have to use Telkom for fibre even on their own openserve network.

I am currently with Axxess but Telkom is the only one where i can keep my landline phone and also be able to use my fax machine have contacted a few ISP's none can offer same service and other options are
too expensive.

Do a bit of research, and you will you will see fax is possible, get a seperate provider for the voip phone (not your ISP VOIP isn't their main business so their offerings are slim)
switch telecom for example, will allow you to port your telkom number and be able to receive faxes (as email) for about R50 a month. if you want to send and receive faxes then your subscription comes to about R100 - no contract month to month.
That's just one , check around their should be others.
