ADSL network congestion a problem: Rudi Jansen

telkom can kiss my ass...

Just read this, its all you will ever need to know about how bad the networks are congested. The fact that they even bother to say that the "address" the issue where its needed is a lie. Nothing we can do though, so we just suck it up....

Im tempted to create a website dedicated to the truth on what Telkom ADSL lines are REALLY like. I'll probably get taken to court

Telkom said that traffic profiles on the backhaul bandwidth between the DSLAM and the ESR are continuously monitored and any subsequent congestion is addressed accordingly in line with the product specification of their three offerings.
Telkom added that they are continuously and consistently monitoring their ADSL network and associated traffic profiles to provide a quality of service in line with the product differentiated specifications to industry.

So they will fixing Bellville/Bothasig issues? Sometime in the next decade?

i so wish other operators like Mweb can build their own backhaul network to relieve Telkom

Telkom is lying, they might be monitoring but they're doing sweet blue fsckall about it.
Overpriced and underperforming seems to be the African thing.
Where are the promised 10meg upgrades?

Wow. I wish i owned a company that has a monopoly and can charge ridiculous prices for a best effort service where tbe only measure of performance is the specifications as laid out by my company. Wow.

I bet if best effort is no service at all then it is still acceptable to them within their specifications.

Honestly if they gave me the power to do so I would can Telkom in 5 seconds flat. ICASA as well. Their both charity cases.

I still don't understand why Telkom charges different prices for different speeds. AFAIK it costs them the same to maintain a 384k or 4MB line. Hardware is the same and it get limited via software.

Surely the ISPs should determine the speeds as it is in the rest of the world?

If and when LTE becomes available Telkom is going to be done for.
They just need to hurry up and assign spectrum.

Hmmmm sounds like a lot of people know a lot about telkom here
why not ask MWEB if they are throttling peoples accounts especially when the move on the the 4 meg lines
and if they realy have the capacity to handle the new speeds that telkom are providing
supposition is the mother of all fook ups

Odd as most of the MWEB users are getting excellent speeds, read previous threads where guys are easily doing over 400GB with no real throttling.

More to the point - this is a thread about the Telkom exchange and backhaul network - not about ISPs throttling policies - get with it:wtf: Start a new thread for that, maybe post a link here, but don't shift blame from Telkom regarding them providing very poor service to many users and overcharging heavily. Remember a huge part of ISP (MWEB for example) is the IPC cost, think about how that affects congestion.

Telkom also noted congestion occurs all over their network, not just the exchange, a further worry... I suppose they mainly meant he backhaul from an exchange or an area where they are still using E1s:cry:

shame , my 10mb Adsl runs fine all day @ steady download stream of 940-960k/sec :) ;)
Is that kB or kb:confused:

WTF does Telkom know?? Have you spoken to anyone at Telkom lately?? Pfft... "best effort" is just a lame excuse for bad service.

Mweb: "Unbundle so we dont have to spend any money on a network of our own". "But before you give us a free network, please upgrade everything so it is brand new".

Mweb are just making a scene to get attention away from their own problems.

If you put 2000 people in a pool designed for 1000, then Mweb will be congested by Mweb policies.

Hmmmm... Looks like these problems are only getting worse!

Been having connection issues, VEEEEEERY slow speeds, and some web pages (local and international) just refuse to even open up!

This is with 3x10MB line in a Channel Bonding solution!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG Telkom!

Please tell us WTF is going on here!

TELKOM must downgrade the all the current users from 1mbps to 384, and 2mbps to 1mbps, that way most of the congestion issues will be resolved, as it was 1 month ago.
