Hi All,

Got a call from Telkom's Lines Department tonight after I complained about rotten speeds the last couple of months.

The guy on the phone did something on his side and since then my ASUS DSL-AC68U modem does not want to sync. But the weird thing is that my old Netgear does. I did reset the ASUS to factory settings, but still nothing.

What could they possibly do on their end that could have caused this?

Sounds like a port reset, did you put your ADSL settings back into the router after factory resetting? (VPI,VCI)

No. Would this affect syncing, though? As far as I'm aware these settings are only applicable once the sync light is on?

Go change your DSL modulation in your modem and switch between them until you are able to sync. They've changed your modulation type in all likelihood and your modem is hard-coding an expected modulation type from the the exchange due to the (now) incorrect settings...

When i ask for a port reset it drops my sync, if it doesnt then whats it actually doing?

I put in my VPI/CPI settings; I changed my modulation; still nothing.

I'm stumped and I have no idea what else to try. Anyone have any more ideas?

Phone them back, ask them what they did and what are the correct settings for your router ........

Maybe it is simply an incorrect configuration on their side. Makes sure you get to a technical help desk person ( scarce in Telkom at the moment). I have no idea of all the options as the last time I contacted the help desk was way back in 2008 .....
