Is it still not possible to pay for ADSL line rental and have only an ADSL line to your premises if you no longer use analogue phones?
I've never understood the validity of billing people for the same copper line twice anyway. As if its two separate lines you rent.
This type of billing only started after 56K analogue modems were dropped for newer technology using the same lines. But its not like Telkom added more copper strands in the line you already rent from them.
I see their ADSL offer fine print still says.
"Excludes Telephone Line Rental " ....seriously?
Is this not uncompetitive behaviour - as you are forced to pay for their analogue phone line rental over and above your ADSL line rental - even if you dont need the "phone line", and can use their competitors VOIP offers for as little as R49 per month (by comparison Telkom charges R200.74 Month To Month for a land line)
Their competitors offering VOIP have far lower call rates than Telkom, even to "landline" numbers. And you can still keep your original "land line" phone number.
But if you take Telkom's fibre option, you dont need to pay the additional phone line rental... Why is that?
