ADSL Stellenbosch issues!

Anyone noticed a spike in ping the last couple of days? Mine went form 18ms-120ms.

The dreaded latency is back.

1 Meg uncapped from Afrihost. Flawless.

The line has gone down probably for 3 days so far this year. It seemed to then be Telkoms fault.

Location: North of Merry Man

Friend of mine in Welgevonden has uncapped Afrihost adsl but Telkom not playing ball.. grrr

Seems like Telkom is still fiddling with their infrastructure!
Like my latency was roughly 12ms to the first hop before midnight and then suddenly my ADSL went completely down for an hour and now my latency is a minimum of 200ms without me downloading/uploading anything ( < 2.5KB/s )

*click for large img

Seems to be a bit better over the weekend in Stellenbosch Central for me. At the moment it's ridiculously poor though...

I'm going to get on to Telkom's case in the new semester. Possibly go into their store at Eikerstad mall.

Any luck Dragon Born? That store just feels so useless...

I swear every time it rains telkom's ability to provide even a fraction of what is being payed for washes down the drain... These past few weeks every issue I have with telkom starts on a rainy day.

ADSL service is the worst it has been in a long time tonight in Onder-Papegaaiberg.

Ping >1000ms and download <500kbps (4mbps ADSL line).
On WebAfrica (Internet Solutions) network.
After disconnecting to try Afrihost, it took more than 15 minutes to authenticate successfully with them!
No change in performance, so it does not seem to be the ISP.

Please Help me

I made this account as it was suggested to me from a friend that i might get results from here. Since the 1st of April I have been receiving excessively high ping. This high ping is not 24 hours but from about 10:00 - 02:00 everyday.

I have spoken over the phone to telkom and all that they would do is reset the port, this worked once or twice but within a week it was back. Sometimes the ping would sort itself out but it never stayed for more than 2 weeks.

I also tried telkom on twitter and they were also unable to provide me with a permanent solution.

Anyone else having connection issues ?

Telkom is apparently working on a issue, but my neighbours in the same complex have a internet connection ?

Jamestown ADSL is not running well, did some tests and it seems to be the exchange. Anyone know what they did the other day when the whole Stellenbosch and surrounds went down? Right now it seems like an over-subscription issue at exchange level.

I can't get more than 2Mbps on speedtest (you know this is prioritised) to CT, JB or international. Also tested VPN to the office and clients - struggled.

My line has started dropping and now I see I'm syncing on ADSL_G.dmt.bis again instead of ADSL2+ and I have packet loss and high attenuation again.

I think someone has moved my line back to the old terrible DSLAM.

Has anyone else had performance issues today?

If I could get in to my MWEB Fon router after flashing it I would tell you the stats. But alas I can use the flash config tool to do initial install and from there I am locked out of the webGUI. I flashed it hoping I would be able to get control of the damn thing and now it is worse!

But in general I have had plenty of slow speeds and my family around the corner on Afrihost, but the same DSLAM have the same issues.

ADSL has been effectively down for me in Onder-Papegaaiberg, Stellenbosch since yesterday afternoon.

Router does manage to authenticate, but the connection drops often and throughput is almost null.

Tried WebAfrica & Afrihost accounts - same result.

I have the same problem as mountain_lion, live in the same area and effectively very very slow Internet since yesterday afternoon. Tried to call Telkom for help, but they passed me on to my ISP, who is also not getting anywhere.

I tried Afrihost, openweb and also telkom guest account, and in all three cases, the first hop after my router is where the problem is at:

Here is the telkom guest account sample traceroute, which never completes:
traceroute to www.saix.net (196.25.1.204), 64 hops max, 52 byte packets

Seems like this is a DSLAM congestion issue. My line is on 021-886 xxxx an was perfect at 06h00 this morning, but died again at around 08h00 as the rest of my neighbours woke up.

Right now I have ver high latency on the second hop as above.

Any suggestions appreciated.

The staff in the eikerstad telkom store drive me mad, they really scraped the bottom of the barrel when employing. However I did manage to get everything sorted though. Now I am just waiting on Telkom to come set everything up.

How long did it take for you guys until they came an installed everything?

Hahahaha those guy.... Eish

Is anyone else having terribly slow Internet over adsl when the eskom power is down? Like here are my results on my 4Mbos ADSL line - both on webafrica ans afrihost:
http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/1074833493

Update:
So the telefone doesn't even have a dial tone.
My adsl modem is still syncing at 4Mbps, but I noticed that I'm getting like 98.7% super frame errors vs frames received. HEC errors are also high.
