I did a search for this but could not find the answer in previous posts so hoping you guys &/or gals can help:

I've upgraded my Telkom line to an ADSL and have installed a Netgear 54mb wireless router. The router and phone plug into a filter before going into the wall but they sit near to each other (about 1.2 meter apart). I am getting a lot of interference and other strange noises on the phone closest to it ... in fact I can't even use that phone anymore.
The phone in my bedroom is fine as long as the modem is turned off - if its on, I get a lot of buzzing noises.

Is there anything that I can do to sort this out so that I can keep the modem on but not experience this problem?

Did you put a pots filter on your line and did you plug your phone into it?

The routers cable should have no pots filter and plugged straight into the jack

Go to your nearest telkom shop and buy a filter for every device connected to the phone line,eg cordless phones, other phones, fax machines ect

Thanks for the replies folks.
The router came with a filter ... it has a wire that goes to the phone line and then 2 plugs, one marked router and the other telephone.
Would that be different to a pots filter?

That is perfect, you plug that filter straight into the telephone wall unit, then plug the phone into the connection marked "telephone" and the adsl into the connection marked "router".

That is your pots filter right there.

Hhhmmm ... perhaps she's broken then as Hereticangel has suggested cos that's what I've done and still get those nasty noises and feedback?

You get a ADSL Pots Filter ...... and you get a Telkom line splitter. Don't confuse the two.

You would need to get a line splitter to split your telephone line into two:

1. 1st line would be your ADSL line which you would attach your ADSL modem or router.
2. 2nd line would be your telephone line (POTS). This line will require a POTS filter so that it can filter out all the ADSL 'noise'.
