Voodoo, your attainable rate will increase the moment your profile is changed to VDSL2 (PTM), if available of course?
The maximum attainable rate for ADSL2+ is approximately 24Mb.
I realise that I have posted this to you in a PM but perhaps its a statement that should be put out there for debate.
"If your DP Sync Info on the
Openserve Portal shows a DP Speed of 20480kbps or less available at your DP Board, the technology is ADSL2+ or less, meaning ADSL2+, ADSL2, G.DMT, T1.413 or G.lite. The last 2 technologies of which I am not sure were even available in South Africa as I understand it was only ADSL1, 2 and 2+.
However if your DP Sync Info on the
Openserve Portal shows a DP Speed of 40960kbps it can only be VDSL2 technology. The overlap comes with the 20Mb accounts available though Sales at Telkom as both ADSL2+ and VDSL2 can achieve speeds of 20480kbps. Unfortunately it seems that Telkom Sales are offering 20480kbps at a lot of non-VDSL2 DP Boards and the confusion is that those profiles can be upgraded to VDSL2. Only DP Boards that are capable of 40906kbps speeds can offer VDSL2 profiles to existing 20Mb accounts. Checking the
SAIX Noticeboard for DSL Migrations can alert you to upcoming DSL upgrades, unfortunately upgrades are not only Exchange dependent, the DP Boards need to be compatible too if you are looking for the VDSL2 profile change."
Unless you are someone that needs to download continuously, an uncapped account as example, then a 20Mb ADSL2+ can be beneficial, otherwise remember that ADSL2+ is fickle when it comes to Noise (SNR) and attenuation, so sometimes higher isn't better and a 10Mb ADSL2+ account or less is perhaps better when you live further away from the exchange. Noting having read from other member experiences that VDSL2 is great but also has distance from the exchange limitations but by all accounts is better than ADSL2+, notably with the upload side of things and line noise (SNR).
Hope this helps, please add your comment if you would like to add or disagree with what I have stated. Thanks.
