Hi Antonf

The high end bundle per-MB costs are not exactly the same (they are in fact 0.0923c, 0.0901c and 0.0884c per MB).
Apologies - I was only referring the the three prices. To make it clear that buyin bulk means a saving I suggest you make them 8c and 7c respectively! :D

I love these: "unsustainable" responses. CellC is still sustaining... And you know why.... Because instead of thinking that the "average" user will consume e.g. 150Mb/month regardless of price, they have realized if they make it cheaper, the average user actually uses MORE. and why is that? its called consumerism.

vodacom has no incliniation to be challenging, to take risk, or even merely TEST the market by offering something like a high end 10Gb for R900.

Many times at 0300 in the morning im thinking im willing to pay more to have uncapped at that moment, the towers and backhaul are quiet, and im getting full speed. At that exact moment Vodacom is loosing potential revenue because im willing to pay, BUT NOT THE SAME PRICE AS THE DATA USED at midday when the network is busy?

They pay for backhaul and international links by the Mbps anyway... so why does the customer pay per MB? it makes no sense.

Its like a liquor store paying for whiskey at liters per second, regardless of sales, and we pay per liter.

If VC wants to DOUBLE there revenue overnight, offer shaped, uncapped, with torrent blocking for R1500 / month. People will go bananas. I know i would.

I wish all these N.O's would realize they could significantly increase revenue by simply getting a little more complicated in their billing systems, and charging dynamic prices depending on network conditions.

Quote prices per GB. At proper prices, nobody should care about per-MB costs. Per GB shows the subtleties at the top of the range.

Excellent idea! I think that is a much better way to go than simply slicing off R30 from all bundles.

It is well known that no telecoms company simply wants to slash prices and hence lose revenue (effectively reducing the average revenue per user – ARPU), and adding more value to subscribers is therefore a better route to follow.
FAIL - by not slicing prices they are loosing more from users jumping ship. I jumped to ADSL and never looked back, took a few people with me as well.

CellC STILL WINS

1 1,024 185 0.18
2 2,048 285 0.14
3 3,072 385 0.13
5 5,120 565 0.11
10 10,240 945 0.09
20 20,480 1,845 0.09
40 40,960 3,620 0.09

CellC:

24 24,??? 1499 0.062458
60 60,??? 2999 0.04998

And that's at 1000:1. At 1024:1, they're even cheaper! (I don't know how they do their GBs, damn ambiguous standards )

Voted NO.

How can 500 MB cost R185,00 and 1,024 MB cost R 285,00? or please learn to write South African!

This is irresponsible reporting as it creates unnecessarily expectations. Yes we would love those pricing but will come from this ? Just hype , I would be much more excited if Vodacom asked these question's. you creating a expectation that will result in disappointed for many.

Voted NO.

Aren't RPM's Vodacom Proposed prices per month while the CellC is total year package?

I voted yes cause its better than what we getting currently from vodacom anything to save a couple of Rands is welcome. Also why don't have make a after hours(12am-5am) data bundles account where they charge you R0.02 or R0.03. They make money and you get to download more.

I challenge Vodacom to price both 1GB and 2GB bundles at 9c/MB pricing. That would come to 1GB/R92.16 and 2GB/R184.32. Heck, rounding up to nice number like 1GB/R99 and 2GB/199.

Why is it that 10/20/40GB bundles are 9c/MB while 1GB/2GB are at 18c/14c ?

Vodacom, be a leader not a follower! By delivering not talking.

These suggested prices should have been implemented in 2008. In 2011 they're extortionate.

If you can find another market where data prices have remained stagnant from 2007 I'll eat their webpage.

It's a fsucking disgrace. Four years of screwing the SA population and stifling an entire country's progress. It's criminal.

Who cares about Vodacon? They're a waste of time, bunch of nobodies desperately trying to price-gouge us like it's still 2007. I switched to Cell C's "special" and am very happy.

Why is there so much focus on Vodacom here, when MTN are actually much bigger and price-gouge just as much, and while Cell C are the ones who've actually made market-shifting moves? All I see is Voda, Voda, Voda on the news page lately.

The only reason the average 'man on street' hasn't picked up on Cell C's new pricing is that they're so used to all operators charging the same, that most people mistakenly think the pricing 'works out about the same no matter where you go', not realising this assumption is no longer true.

*Edit* And why is MyBB promoting "new" pricing that is still FAR more expensive than most other countries on Earth? R185 for 1 GB? Are you kidding me? Something 'funny' going on here.

me too! NO, it`s still too high although the in-bundle rate will drop. if they can make the 5gig like R289 or R389 that will get my attention.
