Advice on purchasing a Porsche

providing you with a driver's experience... :p

Part of the experience is speed though.

Maybe I'm different, but I'm not going to buy a Porsche because it's a Porsche ;) They're supposed to be quick by definition ... and you saw how well the 6.5 second Boxsters sold? Not very!

People don't want a slow Porsche ... People don't want a cheap Apple ... People don't want cut down Rotel amplifier. Certain brands of anything invoke certain images and I've seen how the people can feel. But as Stranger says, I'd still choose a Cayman

EDIT : That won't happen with a 911 though. I think the slowest is still pretty quick!

For me, the problem is people look at very specific stats and then determine if a car is quick or not..

Yes a Golf R may be faster to 100km/h, or whatever, but put it up against a slight slower to 100km/h Porsche on a racetrack and I would be pretty damned confident that the Porsche will run circles around the Golf R

I dunno, eh ... I'll try see if they have laps around tracks, but the GolfR is 4 wheels drive too, so not too shabby a handler.

Btw - I'm really not anti-Porsche ;) I'm a big fan of them - I just think as the 'normal' cars encroach, perhaps they should cut out any slower models and perhaps boost power on the S ranges

EDIT : Ok the Porsche was quicker around Hockenheim Short (and that's a slower Porsche than what I was chatting about ...)

Dolby. That AWD/Quattro assist with handling but the low centre of gravity of a Porsche must have the edge no?
Looks like we need to find something on YouTube.

Edited ;)

But yea whatever you can find you can add as well

2013 Cayman S kicks 7 kinds of poop out of the Golf 7R on track: Source.

Even the regular 2013 Cayman is faster than the 7R around the track, though slower in a straight line: Source.

For the price Porsches go for I would much rather buy a GT-R if I want a racer :p

It's like people buying name brand shoes instead of cheap shoes. You get value for money, unless it bursts into flames for no reason :D

Dont know about that. The GT-R feels heavy and there's no comparison on the suspension

To me it's not just about straight line performance but how the car handles, feels and sounds.

All about the experience of the Drive

True - I actually haven't seen a video where the GTR is ahead of a Turbo/S even in a straight line

Oops I thought you meant the Golf R

Mate of mine owns a GT-R and I can tell you it's not just a straight line racer. It's a bit long yes, but with 4 wheel drive it hits a bend like I have only ever experienced in a Subaru before. But to each his own :) I love Porsches and will drive one for it just being a Porsche. If I want a racer, I will definitely get a GT-R :)

... Or get the Porsche and get everything one go ;)

There are cars faster... But the sheer character of a Porsche cannot be beaten... Its dynamics and build quality is the standard... A GTR... Nah... Its fast but the car has little soul when compared to other super cars... I considered one years back drove it and came away not liking it... A special car, your weekend toy must be a car that entices most senses... I've had a new shape cayman, awesome little car... Yes the golf 7R (which I have as a daily car) will trounce it and heck the golf drives even better ... But the character of the porsche is something else. Where the golf is a functional A to B vehicle the porsche is an occasion (the golf can also be fun)

We all can't afford GT3's adamr :p
