Okay,

In conjuction with the following thread: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/618841-How-to-find-out-my-trade-in-value?

I'm going to Toyota on Friday to discuss trading in my current car and getting a 'new' (but leaning towards a pre-owned) vehicle.
I love my current car, hasn't given me any issues, but it's a 3 door and hatch and I really need 'space' so it's the only real reason I'm wanting something new.

The Toyota Etios has got my attention and I really like the car.
The sales executive (funny enough, I know from high school) has 'found' me one for R129,995 with the following specs: 2013 Etios Sedan 1.5 SX, white, 14,000kms but there is also the OTR that will cost me R5,500 (OTR apparently means in short, admin, license and registration costs and valet etc) so the total price comes to R135,500.

Something tells me, that's quite a bit, but I'm not to knowledgeable on this story and when I have these thoughts, I come to YOU guys. :)
Something also tells me, that that price is almost the same price of a BRAND NEW Etios.

Guidance here...

Thought you need space?
Get a Hyundai or KIA. Better value, newer vehicle and more slick than a E-toss. Even a Suzuki would be much better.

I know that everyone can suggest something better, but at the end of the day, I like the car. It's just the pricing I'm concerned about.

The Eitos is really horrible, surely you can look at something else?

I'm sure it's a re branded 3rd world car. I've driven a few as rentals, and besides the noisy nippy engine, the finish is just cheap...

One of my colleagues has one and I had a good look at it and it looks really nice (to me) but I guess it's each to their own to be honest.

He drives a Renault ... anything will look like a upgrade!

Hyundai or Suzuki ... or a V8 Land Rover :p

Looks aside I would suggest hiring one for the weekend… I did and it was a horrible driving experience.

Don't you get it? Leave the man and his Etios! :) My uncle recently bough a brand new one at Durban South Toyota for R126 990, I test drove the car, probably not a car I would choose for myself, but he likes it... Go for it! Just look for a better deal!

Well Toyota is Toyota, no matter the model. Reliable!

As for the OTR (i think its on the road costs) is a bit high. I remeber when I bought my fortuner it was about R 2000.
Be hardegat with the sales people, you will be surprised how much they can shave of a deal.

The OTR is ridiculously high.

We charge R 2950, and that includes everything down to a full tank of petrol, carpet mats and perspex number plates.

If you want more space over your current car, the only Etios that will give you that is the sedan. I had to live with one for 4 months after the launch - trust me, the car is cr@p, and you will get tired of the noisy interior, the rattles and the complete lack of insulation from the outside world.

That money will buy you far better cars.

Yeah... no comment on the vehicle or the price.. but the OTR is ridiculously over the top...

My girl friends mom bought an Etios recently and she loves it.

While it will be more noisy than a R300 000 car it does well for itself. It is mostly used in city traffic but has done a few Johannesburg to Pretoria and week in Pilanesberg with no hassles.

The interior is spacious, the ride height is higher than a polo and comfortable, the center instrument panel isn't for everyone but you get used to quickly, how ever the hatchback has a limited boot. In terms of performance it is a punchy engine and is a light drinker.

She did have some extras smash & grab window tint and rims but will find out her OTR

Looks like some people don't need to listen to their passengers or turn on the radio! :p

Road noise is horrific for a 21st Century car. A 1965 Ford Cortina is quieter!

Had a etios hatch as a rental once, felt like a tin can.... not a car i would recommend.
